THE man suspected of murdering Madeleine McCann will not be charged soon — despite new evidence, cops said.

Hopes that Christian B, 45, will face justice before long were dashed by investigator Hans Christian Wolters.

German detectives probing the 2007 disappearance in Portugal of the three-year-old British tot confirmed they had unearthed crucial clues.

They linked Madeleine to a campervan driven by Christian B — now in jail for raping a pensioner.

Wolters said it was possible he “bought” Madeleine from an accomplice who stole her from parents Gerry and Kate’s Praia da Luz apartment.

But he added: “We’re sure he’s the murderer.

It comes after cops in Portugal decided they will continue to investigate Madeleine’s disappearance despite the Met Police ending its probe.


Sources close to Portuguese authorities said abandoning their ongoing case review was “completely out of the question”.

Portugal’s Attorney General’s Office said an independent inquiry led by prosecutors out of the Algarve will continue.
