Selling Sunset season 5 has brought us all the drama, fashion and luxe homes fans had been waiting for, but the reality series almost didn’t even happen, according to Jason Oppenheim.

Jason and his twin brother Brett are the real estate brokers behind the popular Netflix programme, which aired in 2019 and followed the high-end real estate agents in their personal and professional lives.

But before it even began, Jason and Brett were hesitant to do the show.

‘The show started out with me not wanting to do a show,’ the 45-year-old said.

‘I had been approached by a couple of agents and producers over a long year – and my brother and I decided we weren’t interested,’ he told The Sun.

‘We had a very successful up-and-coming company and we were doing very well in real estate – we thought, “Why take any risks?”‘

However, his feelings were turned by Selling Sunset producers, who also created The Hills and Laguna Beach.

Jason also admitted feeling nervous during filming, and not knowing what to expect until realising that season one was ‘good’ once it premiered.

‘I think we relaxed a little bit and I think we’ve just become more relaxed each season,’ he added.

Along with his famous castmates and employees Mary Fitzgerald, Chrishell Stause, Chrstine Quinn, Davina Potratz and Emma Hernan, Jason and Brett have rose to fame following the popularity of the series.

This season, Chelsea Lazkani was added into the mix.

The British-Nigerian luxury real estate agent became inseparable with Christine and impressed Jason with her ability to sell multimillion dollar homes, joining the office soon after.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk about being the latest addition to the team, the 29-year-old discussed the incredible reaction that she had received from fans before her debut was even aired.

She told us: ‘Everyone’s like Black Girl Magic! I’ve been hyped up, I love it!

‘For me, it was so important to not only show who I am being a mother and a real estate agent, but to really sprinkle some of that Black excellence, because I think it’s not shown enough.

‘This is just the beginning and I love it.’

Selling Sunset is available to watch on Netflix.
