Coach John Kavanagh Hints at a Meeting With Conor McGregor for the First Time Since His Horrific Leg Break

UFC superstar Conor ‘The Notorious’ McGregor is arguably one of the biggest names in combat sports history. He is a former dual weight class champion who once held the lightweight as well as the featherweight title. His team played a crucial role in this success, which coach John Kavanagh leads. Kavanagh recently thanked McGregor on his Instagram story, which could hint at the two meeting for the first time in 10 months.

Kavanagh posted an Instagram story in which we see him standing next to his wife with a caption, “Thank you @thenotoriousmma for an amazing trip to #sainttropez.” This means that the two could meet, as McGregor is also currently at Saint-Tropez, Southern France.

If this is true, this will be the first time the two will be meeting after McGregor’s loss to Dustin Poirier, which happened in July of last year. This might hint at them working together for McGregor’s next fight, which is rumored to happen this summer.

Humble Beginnings of Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor and John Kavanagh go way back to their humble beginnings at SBG gym, Ireland. Kavanagh is the founder and head coach of Straight Blast Gym, where he met McGregor and created history. McGregor joined SBG in 2007 when he was just 16, coming from Crumlin Boxing Club.

Kavanagh is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black belt and has helped McGregor achieve the impossible inside the octagon. The two have shattered records at both the Cage Warriors and the UFC. Under the guidance of Kavanagh, McGregor won the featherweight as well as the lightweight title in the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship.

Kavanagh was still working with McGregor when he joined the UFC. McGregor’s meteoric rise in the UFC earned him a fight against Chad Mendes for the featherweight title. McGregor won this bout in a stylistic fashion.

He later challenged the-then champion, Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight championship. He beat Alvarez and created history as the first-ever double champion in the UFC.

With McGregor eyeing a return in summer, it is possible that the Irishman may have invited his coach to work with him.
