“How the F**k”: Carlos Sainz Left Perplexed After Hearing Max Verstappen’s Shocking Miami GP Claim

Max Verstappen is taking all the plaudits from the Miami Grand Prix. The dutchman overtook Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari in the first 10 laps of the GP. And after that, running at P1 with no cars to slow him down, Verstappen flew in the RB18. He amassed quite a gap between him and the runner-up Leclerc during the race before the safety car. And when Sainz enquired about the gap post-race, he could not believe his ears.

Sainz finished the race at P3 and for most of the race, he was sandwiched between Leclerc and Sergio Perez. With the threat from Perez and the desire to catch teammate Leclerc, Sainz did not give the race leader Verstappen much thought. Or the reason could be the fact he was nowhere in sight as the Red Bull man amassed a gap of  7.5 seconds.

Sainz: “Cuál era la diferencia antes del SC?”

Verstappen: “Creo que 7.5 segundos, por ahí”

While the three podium finishers sat post celebration, discussing the race. Sainz asked Verstappen, “What was the gap?” and Max replied, “Seven and a half before the safety car” to which Sainz instantly exclaimed, “How the f**k.”

A shocking realization for the Ferrari man. Something he did not probably expect as Leclerc has been brilliant in the F1-75 this season with incredible pace.

However, Red Bull is not far behind. Despite three retirements in the first five races, the Austrian team is just 6 points behind the Reds. Moreover, all the races Verstappen has finished, he’s won!

Max Verstappen still worried about reliability

Even with two back-to-back wins, Verstappen is still concerned about the reliability issues. Keeping the win aside, the Friday practice session was terrible for Max.

“We’re still having a few issues we have to solve. We are quick, but my Friday was terrible… which is not great if you want to have a good weekend,” said Verstappen.

This was not the only blemish on the team’s weekend. Perez also suffered engine problems during the race and lost some power. Because of this, he couldn’t finish any higher than fourth, even with a fresh set of tires.

A combination of excellent pace but reliability issues will only get Red Bull so far. Consistent performances will be required to close the gap and catch Ferrari throughout the season.
