‘I Could Throw it a Mile’: John Daly Once Revealed His Greatest Game as a Footballer
John Daly is one of the most prominent golfers on the PGA Tour. The two-time major championship winner is an open book and never refrains from being himself. Apart from golf, John is a massive sports football fan; in fact, he even played school football.
Notably, John Daly once appeared on Golf Channel’s The Morning Drive show in 2017. There, when the host asked him about his experience as a school football player, “Well, I was a field goal kicker,” said John. “I could throw it a mile, but I just couldn’t run. And if I couldn’t do that, I want to be a linebacker,” revealed Daly.
However, he said that he did not have the speed to tackle anybody. Therefore, when the coach asked him what he would do, “Well, I punt and kick,” said Daly. Long John talked about his biggest game as a school football player.
Daly’s team was from a small school, while their opponents were one of the best. “We were a small school, and they said we’ll play them. So to make a long story short, I ended up kicking two field goals and beating the rock bridge,” revealed the 56-year-old golfer.

After narrating this incredible game, the host asked John Daly what was the longest field goal he had ever made as a high school football player. “I think it was like 46,” revealed John. This is incredible, especially when we consider it was just a high school football player.

However, because of his extravagant lifestyle and physic, competing in other sports was becoming strenuous for Daly. But he had the natural talent and rhythm with a golf club in his hand. And we all know what impact he has created in the golfing world with his ‘grip it and rip it style.
Currently, 56-year-old Daly competes in the PGA Tour Champions and considers his PGA Tour career as finished.
