I’m a Taco Bell fan and I took drastic steps to get my favorite item back on the menu – I got them to customize my meal

A TACO Bell fan took drastic steps to get his favorite item back on the menu.

One year into the Covid-19 pandemic, Chris Sandberg decided to turn his fitness journey into a TikTok challenge.

The 37-year-old began exercising every day starting in January 2021 and vowed to keep doing so until Taco Bell brought back the Grilled Stuft Nacho.

Nearly 500 days later, Sandberg lost roughly 87 pounds throughout his challenge.

“Because it’s TikTok, you can’t just lose the weight, you have to turn it into a challenge,” he told Fox News. “I didn’t want the journey to be about a number on a scale.”

Sandberg added that he wanted to make the challenge fun and give himself a goal that he actually wanted.

I work at Taco Bell – there is a tedious reason your food looks the same

“And for some reason, the first thing that popped into my head was the Grilled Stuft Nacho, and I just ran with it.”

His first video was posted on January 4, 2021, when he weighed about 275 pounds.

“Day one of exercising every day until Taco Bell brings back the Grilled Stuft Nacho,” he announced in the clip.

The video was captioned: “Do the right thing #tacobell.”

According to the Taco Bell Wiki, the Grilled Stuft Nacho was first introduced in 2013. It’s described as “a flour tortilla, shaped like a nacho, stuffed with beef, cheesy jalapeno sauce, sour cream and crunchy red strips”

Sandberg tried the meal for the first time right before it was discontinued and removed from menus in 2015.

“It was the best thing I ever had at Taco Bell,” he said. “And then I had it every day for a week.”

However, the meal was eventually removed from the menu of his local Taco Bell and, though it has been about seven years since his first Grilled Stuft Nacho, Sandberg still thinks about it.

He claims the item is special because of the cheese jalapeño sauce which is “different” than the restaurant’s creamy jalapeño sauce.

“I just haven’t let it go,” he said.

Over the years, Sandberg says he has lost – and gained back – hundreds of pounds using different weight loss methods.

During the pandemic, he began using TikTok and started making videos when “it just kind of occurred to me that if I spent as much time focusing on my health as I did on TikTok, then maybe I could lose the weight that I’ve always talked about losing.”

Making the Taco bell meal part of his fitness goal not only brought humor into the journey but also gave Sandberg something to focus on instead of his weight.

“The dichotomy of exercising and fast food is obviously very funny, he said.

“The Grilled Stuft Nacho has been amazing because it’s something that’s kept this journey fun for me,” he continued. “People who struggle with weight, it’s a serious thing and it can be very hard for people to go through. I know it was for me. Allowing the process to be fun was so helpful.”

Making the journey fun gave him the ability to “maintain consistency” and prevent burnout.

“If something is fun and goofy, you take yourself less seriously,” he said. “You’re able to laugh at yourself a little more.”
