NFL Insider Weighs In on the Complexities the Packers Deal With Aaron Rodgers’ Backup Jordan Love

After a pretty interesting 2021 season, the Green Bay Packers have been pretty impressed with their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He helped the team clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC after a phenomenal 13-4 record in the regular season. Furthermore, he even claimed his second consecutive NFL MVP making his total count to four.

Since the 38-year-old quarterback never fails to put on a show, the role of his backup seems to narrow down day by day. Jordan Love, the 2020 first-round pick QB of the Packers stares at his third season in the league as a backup to Rodgers. Though being a collegiate standout, he still remains under the shadows of one of the biggest players in the league.

Green Bay Packers’ stance on Jordan Love

Recently during a conference, the Packers GM Brian Gutekunst opened up about the situation on Jordan Love. “He showed really good signs last year,” he said “I think his future is bright. As far as what his future is with us, we’ll kind of see how that goes.”

#Packers GM Brian Gutekunst: What is quarterback Jordan Love’s future in Green Bay? “I think we’re excited about Jordan’s development. He’s going into his third year. Evidently, the franchise feels contented to possess a complimentary backup to their star QB, but is this a good development for Love early on in his career?

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport suggests that the Packers could end up trading him under the right circumstances.

Can Love get out of the shadows of Aaron Rodgers?

“Let’s say someone would have given him a fifth,” Ian Rapoport said at The Pat McAfee Show. “I guarantee somebody would trade a fifth-rounder for Jordan. I’m sure somebody would trade a fourth-rounder for Jordan. But is that enough for the Packers?… They want the security of Love, who knows their system and they still like him.”

“If someone’s willing to give maybe a two [round pick], definitely, or three [round pick], maybe; then I think they would say, ‘You know what, we’ll take the draft pick, we’ll sign a veteran backup,’” he added.

Jordan Love appears to be in a tough spot with the Packers moving on to his third year in the league. However, Rodgers himself had to deal with it while competing for the QB1 spot with the legendary Brett Favre. However, if Love sticks with the Packers, he might just be the successor to the QB throne after Rodgers.
