The sad face filter growing in popularity on the video-sharing app is actually not native to TikTok, but rather to Snapchat.

Users who have Snapchat can open the app, head to the filters tab, and press explore.

Once in the search bar, simply type “crying.”

After recording your video with the sad face filter, just save the file to your camera roll.

Then, you can upload the finished product to TikTok, adding whatever sounds or filters you would like.

Does TikTok have its own filters?

Aside from various face filters, TikTok also allows users to edit their video styles.

Filters allow you the option to invert (flip) the recording, add colors, or stick a fun augmented reality effect over the top of your video.

To access filters, open up the app and hit the “+” button at the bottom of your screen to create a post.


Filters can be found to the right and are split into four categories: Portrait, Landscape, Food, and Vibe.

Some popular face filters include the grinning smile filter, the celebrity twin filter, and the Euphoria filter.

TikTok is one of the most downloaded apps globally, allowing users to share short video clips in genres like dance, comedy, or education.

Beijing-based technology company ByteDance – founded by the Chinese billionaire Zhang Yiming – owns TikTok.

TikTok allows users to share up to three minutes’ worth of video – creating their own content, lip-syncing to popular songs, comedy sketches, or film scenes.

When did TikTok merge with Musical.ly?

TikTok launched in 2017 for Apple and Android products in most markets outside of mainland China.

The app only became available worldwide when it merged with fellow Chinese social media service Musical.ly in 2018.

Musical.ly was launched in 2014 and allowed users to create and share short lip-sync videos.
