Former NBA Champion Blasts Stephen Curry’s Pre-Game Antics for Embarrassing loss to Ja Morant less Grizzlies

After surviving off an impressive fourth-quarter comeback in Game 4, the Warriors couldn’t pull the same effort in Game 5. The Memphis Grizzlies went off against the Bay to defeat them by almost 40 points in the must-win game. Before the game, Stephen Curry had a few words about how the Warriors would win. But they came back to bite him and his team. Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins believes Curry’s antics are the reason the Warriors were humiliated tonight.

The Grizzlies crowd has always been electric in these playoffs so far. However, their signature chant ‘Whoop That Trick’ was born several years before the young roster made such an impact. It all started with them seeking revenge over the Clippers. The crowd started the chant from Al Kapone’s ‘Whoop That Trick’ song from the Memphis-based movie Hustle & Flow.

Curry decided to use this exact chant against the home team, saying, “‘Whoop that trick’. That is our game plan.” And this came back to hit Steph in the worst way possible.

Perkins blames Stephen Curry for Warriors embarrassing loss

After Curry’s shot at the Grizzlies’ chant, they took it personally and went off. Leading by over 50 points at one time, the Grizzlies snatched the must-win game in style to make the series 3-2. Steph heard the chant all night long as their offense fell apart and Memphis showed their true hustle nature to the two-time MVP.

Kendrick Perkins took to Twitter to speak about the situation and said Curry is the one to blame. He believes Steph fired up the Memphis players and crowd which resulted in a 39-point loss in Game 5. He said: “Steph Curry said “Whoop That Trick” huh?! The Grizzlies took it PERSONAL!!! Carry the hell on…”

Curry surely felt the buzz of the crowd, as he couldn’t get things going. He added just 14 points on 40% shooting for the night. The entire Warriors team couldn’t figure out the Grizzlies trick as they crumbled under the pressure of the crowd. As for Memphis, they taught the Bay a lesson they will never forget.

Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Tyus Jones all dropped 21 points to guide the Grizzlies to a 134-96 win at home. The Grizzlies have picked up serious momentum going on the road for yet another must-win Game 6. With a statement win in Game 5, do you think Memphis can shock the Warriors in 7 games?
