‘He’s Probably Put a Few More Years of Work and Training Into Tennis Than I Have’ – Emma Raducanu on Her Comparison to Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz is making a statement with his dominant display this season. At 19, he is consistently coming out on top against the best players in the world. Moreover, his fellow players like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have spoken highly of the young Spaniard. Last week at the Madrid Open, he achieved the rare feat of defeating Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at the same tournament. Eventually, Alcaraz went on to win the title, defeating Alexander Zverev in the summit clash.

Emma Raducanu is another young tennis sensation who has impressed with her performances. She had a fairy-tale run at the US Open last year, winning her maiden Grand Slam title. Recently, she opened up about her comparison to Alcaraz.

Emma Raducanu hopes to do similar things as Carlos Alcaraz

During an interview after her first-round exit at the Italian Open, the British tennis star talked about her comparison with the Spaniard. She said, “Yeah, I think what Carlos is doing is pretty incredible. He’s playing so well. I feel like this year especially he’s made a lot of developments physically. I think that’s definitely helping him.”

Further, she added, “Like, he was always an incredible tennis player, but just the ability to repeat and keep doing it, I think it’s really good to see that he can be that consistent at such a young age. Yeah, he’s probably put a few more years of work and training into tennis than I have. But, yeah, hopefully after a few more years or how long it takes myself, I could do similar things.”

Raducanu suffers a fresh injury setback

The 19-year-old was looking to win her first title this season as she stepped on the court to face Bianca Andreescu in the first round of the Italian Open. However, she had to withdraw midway through the second set due to a back injury.

With this latest setback, Raducanu’s preparation for the French Open has taken a major hit. It remains to be seen if she can get back fit in time for the clay-court Grand Slam tournament.
