Iga Swiatek Creates Another Insane Record as She Joins Serena Williams, Simona Halep, and Others After Reaching Final of Italian Open 2022

Polish tennis star, Iga Swiatek, has been on a record-breaking run in 2022, and it’s continuing at the Italian Open. Today, she absolutely destroyed the no.3 seed and the World no.8, Aryna Sabalenka, in straight sets to reach the Italian Open final. Incidentally, this is her fifth straight final appearance in a row. Meanwhile, with today’s win, she created another insane record to join the likes of Serena Williams, Martina Hingis, and Kim Clijsters.

Many fans hoped for a great match between the two players, as it was a sort of revenge match for the Belarusian no.1, Sabalenka. However, Iga completely dominated the Belarusian player and won the match by 6-2,6-1. Throughout the whole tournament, she lost only 17 games so far to reach the final. Needless to say, she didn’t drop a single set.

Astonishingly, she now entered the list, which consists of Serena Williams, Martina Hingis, Simona Halep, and Kim Clijsters. In the last 25 years, only Serena Williams lost the fewest sets (10) to reach the final of the Italian Open back in 2013. Additionally, Only Kim Clijsters in 2003 and Martina Hingis in 1998, lost 13 and 15 games, respectively. Now, Iga equaled Simona Halep’s record back in 2018, when she reached the final of the Italian Open.

Can Iga win the Italian Open?

Meanwhile, it doesn’t look like her record-breaking win streak will stop anytime soon, as it reaches 27. Previously, Iga met Sabalenka at the Stuttgart Open final, where the Polish player comfortably won against the Belarusian. Before that, they met for the first time this season at the Qatar Open quarter-final, where also Iga won with ease.

Speaking of the Qatar Open, this was the tournament where Iga’s winning streak started. After winning the title there, she now won 4 back-to-back titles, including the two big titles at the Indian Wells and Miami Open. Now, she is on her way to another final, as she keeps breaking records after each win.

In the final, she could face the Madrid Open winner, Ons Jabeur. Incidentally, Iga skipped the Madrid Open, due to a shoulder injury. If she had played, she could have won that tournament as well.

Who can stop Iga’s win streak at the moment? Let us know in the comments.
