Arch-Rivals Sony and Microsoft Reveal Thoughts About Adding Games to Their Online SubscriptionsAtharv PhadkeEssentiallySports

Sony decided not to release first-party PlayStation 5 titles as a part of the PS-Plus subscription. The franchise chose this option as they felt the games would lose their worth. I mean, they are not wrong at all. Every title out there has a different fan base overall. So, releasing them under one space will not do just for them.

Further on, Sony’s CFO, Hiroki Totoki, didn’t take names, but fans across the world understood that they pointed their finger at arch-rival Microsoft.

The Sony-Microsoft rivalry is at its peak!

We all know that Sony and Microsoft have been arch-rivals since the start. From releasing top-grossing titles to creating next-gen consoles, the companies are always looking for ways to keep their fans hooked. But with every step taken, new problems arise. In this article, we shed light on one such topic that has been trending between the two.

Microsoft recently claimed that the franchise would release all-new first-party titles on the Xbox game pass. It means that users will get access to hundreds of games if they purchase an online membership. Sounds normal, right? But here’s the catch. Once you buy the online subscription, you can play the upcoming Halo Infinite, Horizon 5, for free.

It led to immense pressure in the Sony headquarters, as they would have to release something similar to stay in the game. But Sony’s CFO denied any update about this.

Instead, he said‘If we distribute first-party games on the subscription services, we may need to shrink the investment needed for quality products. Our current thinking is to have development costs and appropriate R&D investment for quality products, which will improve the platform and improve business in the long run.’

Is the PS Plus worth it? What can people expect from it?

Two months back, Sony relaunched the PS Plus subscription, giving it a new look. They introduced PS Now, giving users access to more titles. So, whoever is thinking of buying it will be able to do so from June.

The new subscription comes in three tiers. PlayStation Plus essential, being the first, allows you to get access to your previously owned games, discounts on games, and promises two new titles every month. On the other hand, the Plus Extra gives access to a library of 400 PS4 and PS5 games. Lastly, the Premium tier gives you everything mentioned above and bonus access to Sony’s retro games.
