MEXICAN boxer Alejandro Ayala is in a “stable condition” after being rushed to hospital and undergoing surgery.

The 33-year-old was stopped by Scot Hannah Rankin 10 rounds into their WBA and IBO super-welterweight bout in Glasgow on Friday.

Ayala was tended to by medics in the ring following the TKO before being transported to a local hospital.

And today Rankin has said she is sending “thoughts, prayers and good wishes” to Ayala.

The 31-year-old wrote on Twitter: “My thoughts, prayers and good wishes are with Alejandra and her family and team at this time.

“Once again thank you Scotland for supporting our fight and can we all keep Alejandra and her team in your thoughts for a speedy recovery.”

4,500 fans were in attendance at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow to watch Rankin defend her titles.

A statement from Dennis Hobson Promotions said Rankin was “deeply concerned” by Ayala’s condition, but the Mexican is said to be stable in hospital.

It said: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Dennis Hobson Promotions, Fight Academy and FightZone are with Alejandra Ayala.

“Following Friday’s WBA & IBO World Championship bout with Hannah Rankin, Alejandra was admitted to hospital in Glasgow where she has undergone surgery and is now reported to be in stable condition.


“We are in touch with Alejandra’s family and management team and offer them our full support.

“Hannah is aware of the situation and was deeply concerned to learn of her brave opponent’s condition.

“We will update everyone when we can and it’s appropriate to do so, but right now our thoughts are with Alejandra and her family.”
