Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek tennis professional, achieved the ranking of World No.3 in 2021 and became the highest-ranked Greek player in history. Currently, he is fifth in singles ranking and is testing his luck on the European clay-court season.

Further, Stefanos has had some brilliant matches on the red dirt. But, the recent task of defeating the 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic was rather heavy for him as he failed to out-muscle the Serb in the finals of the Italian Open. Tsitsipas, while addressing the press after his loss, spoke about the highly anticipated French Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Shares His Thoughts About the Roland Garros 2022

Stefanos had to settle for the runner-up position as Djokovic outclassed the Greek in straight sets, 6-0, 7 (7)- 6 (5) to clinch the title. Thereafter, at the press conference, Tsitsipas disclosed who, according to him, is the best fit for winning the French Open.

“Right now, Alcaraz and Djokovic are the favorites for Roland Garros.” The Greek star also explained how he likes to improve his game ahead of the grand slam event in Paris.

 “I have to improve. I don’t know if I’ll be at their level, but I’m going to try to do it. And I have to pay more attention to detail in the next two weeks.” Further, he added, “Roland Garros is a marathon, spiritually and physically. You have to leave everything on the track. I’m looking forward to resting for a couple of days to start training and get fully into the tournament. I enjoy playing there.”

Tsitsipas Up Till Now in Clay

The 23-year-old gave a kick start to the season by defending his title at Monte Carlo Masters. Thereafter, his journey in the Barcelona Open was cut short by the rising Spanish tennis professional Carlos Alcaraz. He walked out of the tournament after having a quarterfinal run.

Following that, he fought tooth and nail against the German tennis star Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the Madrid Open. The match favored Zverev, thus making Stefanos pack his bags just before the finale.

Tsitsipas finally had a chance to avenge his 2021 French Open defeat in Rome. As usual, Djokovic, dismantled Tsitsipas with ease and snatched the Greek’s dream of winning his ninth ATP singles title.
