Here THREAD senior stylist Millie Rich and stylist Hannah Thistleton share their top tips for those with bigger busts who want to wear what they like this summer…

Don’t throw away your old bra

First up, this is a trick that is completely free, and just requires an old bra and a little bit of patience.

Millie says: “You don’t need to be a savvy DIY-er for this hack, but it’s perfect for non-bra lovers.

FASHION TIPS AND TRICKS

DRESSING DOWN

I’ve got big boobs & this trick means dresses fit every time without gaping

OUT OF SIGHT

You’ve been wearing your bras all wrong – the straps should never be visible

“Simply sew an old bra into a backless dress for built-in support.

“Just chop off the straps and hand-sew it into any dress. Wa-la!”

Meet the multiway

Of course, there if you want some flexibility to play around with different necklines, there is also the multiway-bra.

Hannah says: “A multiway-bra can easily be converted into several types of bra.

“A simple alteration of the straps and you can have a halter, one shoulder, strapless, or a criss-cross bra to wear with endless outfits.

You should be able to wear what you like, whatever size bust you haveShutterstock

“This is your preferred option if you have a fuller-bust because they provide a greater level of support.

“However, this doesn’t work too well if your dress is completely backless, it’s more if you have some kind of strap somewhere.”

Use a bra converter for low-back dresses

If you do want to wear backless, it’s not out of the question.

Millie says: “Not wearing a bra isn’t really an option if you’ve got more going on in the breast department.

“However, bra converters are a handy way to hide unsightly bra back straps if you’re going for something with a plunge back.”

Bralettes are for everyone

Contrary to popular opinion, bralettes can be worn by everyone – but women with larger busts should look for specific supportive features.

Hannah says: ‘We all spend our day-to-days in basic cotton t-shirts, so finding the perfect base layer for this is fairly crucial.

“Designed to feel like a second skin, a bralette is free of any fastenings, padding, or underwire for a clean finish.

“Opt for planet-friendly Lyocell because it’s super soft and cool to the touch.

“If you have a bigger bust, you can still get on the bralette hype, just look out for supportive features like wide bands and high backs for comfortable all-day wear.”

Structured and strapless

There’s also many tops out there that really don’t benefit from having your bra straps on show, but perhaps you’re not really up for going braless.

Hannah says: “Cue the strapless bra.

“Now, the best strapless bra for you ultimately depends on your shape and size.

“Larger cup sizes will likely need something with a bit more structure, say with a wide and deep underband.”

An extra boost

If a strapless bra doesn’t provide enough support, you can try adding this simple technique.

Millie says: “Strapless bras aren’t always a viable solution for bigger breasts.

“This method means doubling up on both sticky lift tape and a bra to give you more of a lifted cleavage.”

Strap size solution

Finally, when buying a new bra, Millie has a top sizing tip, to make sure you get the most out of it.

She adds says: “You shouldn’t have to wear brand-new bras on anything other than the loosest hook, as this will give you the best support.

“Over time, as the elastic stretches, move up to tighter hooks.”
