American legendary tennis player Serena Williams has had plenty of battles with many players over the years. However, her battles with the current generation of players have been the most intriguing. Last year, at the Australian Open, she had a tremendous battle with the Belarusian player Aryna Sabalenka.

Many thought Sabalenka would become the next Serena because of the similarities in their serving and playing styles. So, it could have been a passing the torch moment for the player from Belarus. However, Serena defeated her to show the world that she was still the queen. The match had plenty of rallies, but one particular rally caught the eye of the fans and experts.

Serena Williams’ amazing rally against Aryna Sabalenka at the Australian Open 2021

During the fourth round match, Sabalenka was serving to stay in the first set at 4-5. Serena was already 0-15 up against the Belarusian and then the rally took place. It was a tremendous effort from the 23-time Grand Slam champion to stay in the rally. She should have lost that point on many occasions, however, her determination and not giving up attitude forced Sabalenka to make a mistake as her shot hit the net.

Eventually, she won that set by 6-4 and then the match in three sets. After beating Sabalenka in the pre-quarter final, she went on to beat Simona Halep in the quarter-final. Unfortunately, her amazing run came to an end in the semi-final, at the hands of Naomi Osaka. Even though she didn’t win the tournament, her performance impressed a lot of fans and experts.

Serena is on the verge of her comeback in 2022

Incidentally, the 2021 Australian Open was the last time she reached the semi-final of any Grand Slam tournament. After the Australian Open, she reached only the fourth round at the French Open, and then she suffered a massive injury at the Wimbledon and had to retire from the first round. That was the last time played a match on the tour.

However, she might make her return again on the same stage this year, where she retired last year. Recently, she shared a few workout videos as a preparation for Wimbledon. With age not on her side, it may be her last chance to equal Margaret Court’s record 24 Grand Slam titles.

Can Serena win her 24th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon? Let us know in the comments.
