Using cutting-edge CGI and all the latest research, David Attenborough is taking us back into pre-history this week.

But if real-life and the past isn’t your thing, then maybe you’d prefer something Stranger. Yes, Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven and friends are returning too, ready to face new threats of gigantic proportions.

There’s also a stunning Welsh-language thriller on the BBC, and Iain Stirling is here with top-class comedy over on Amazon.

What a week for watching telly.

Prehistoric Planet

CGI monsters from a land before time (Picture: Courtesy of Apple)

The blockbuster combination of David Attenborough, state-of-the-art CGI and dinosaurs – lots of dinosaurs – is the draw in this lavishly realised five-part visualisation of prehistoric times.

It’s stripped through the week, so you can already stream Coasts and Deserts, while Freshwater is tonight with Ice Worlds and Forests rounding off the week.

And if the makers of Doctor Who are looking for a new monster, they could do worse than the beelzebufo, a giant toad/frog hybrid that squishes all in its path.

Stranger Things 4

Millie Bobby Brown returns to devastating effect in Stranger Things (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)

Stranger Things has come a long way since its beginnings as a tale about curious kids in small-town Indiana in the style of Stand By Me.

Now, as the opening half of season four lands in our laps, it’s more like War Of The Worlds with a big budget full of cosmic monsters and mighty set
pieces.

But it’s still the character sequences that give the show’s its star appeal, with Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven caught in a tricky quandary over her ever-shifting powers.

Available Friday.

Obi-wan Kenobi

Finally, the long-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi is with us (Picture: Lucasfilm/Disney Plus)

It only took 17 years but Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christiensen are back as jedis Obi-wan Kenobi and Darth Vader in the long-awaited Disney+ TV series following the events from Star Wars: Revenge of The Sith.

It’s been a convoluted road to get here. First mooted in 2015, Obi-Wan Kenobi started life as a movie before being shelved following the poor performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

It re-emerged in 2019 as a TV series for Disney+ and finally arrives at the end of this week almost 45 years to the day since A New Hope hit cinemas.

Available Friday.
