BBC’s Gentleman Jack returned for one final instalment tonight, and Metro.co.uk has recapped all the events of tonight’s whirlwind episode below.
The second season of the drama, based on Anne Lister’s (Suranne Jones) famous diaries, has thrown up a whole host of difficulties for the leading lady and her other half, Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle).
While Lister has struggled to make peace with her commitment to Walker, her wife has been involved in a nasty family feud, in an attempt to get what is rightfully hers.
Last week’s instalment played host to even more family drama, with Walker’s sister Elizabeth Sutherland (Katherine Kelly) caught in the middle between her husband Captain Sutherland (Derek Riddell) and her younger sibling, as the battle to finalise the division of their estate continued.
Tonight’s episode saw Captain Sutherland only continue his attempts to ruin Walker’s claim to her estate, but fans will have rejoiced in seeing his efforts come back to bite him.
Meanwhile, it looked as though it might be all off for Walker and Lister, as Walker almost became sucked in by her brother-in-law’s harmful gossiping. But fear not, the pair finally got their happy ending.
Heres’e everything that happened in an absolutely packed finale.

The finale touched on Lister’s difficulties with her own parents growing up, as it became even clearer that she saw the Northcliffes as much as family.
We were treated to a little more of her former lover and close friend Tib (Joanna Scanlan), albeit for a sad occasion, to share the news of her beloved mother’s death.
‘My darling girl,’ she wrote. ‘I am sure you will grieve to hear my darling mother expired this morning. At 10 minutes past 5 in Charlotte’s arms, she went off in her sleep and I think did not suffer.
‘I do not have time to write more now as we are all in great affliction. She was always so very fond of you and I knew you were of her. You of all people will share our sorrow most deeply,’ which left both women in tears in a touching moment.

Throughout the second half of the series, the story of Walker’s battle to secure her division of her father’s estate has come to the forefront.
We’ve seen Captain Sutherland determined to put a stop to it, which reached a new level tonight when he tried to manipulate Walker’s trusted associates, Mr Parker and Mr Gray, and told everyone that would listen of his fears of Lister’s ‘unnatural hold’ over his sister-in-law, and his belief she had been coerced.
But after trying every trick in the book to stop Walker from getting her rightful share, Elizabeth finally did the right thing. From the corner of the room, she blurted out: ’It isn’t true, neither Mr Gray nor Mr Parker had anything against this division. It’s hers and she should have it if this is what she wants.’
And so the nation breathed a collective sigh of relief, with Lister brilliantly hitting back: ‘I feel you have built me up in your mind to be all manner of things that I am not, and some that I am. If you excuse me, I have my own estate to run.’
Sutherland is later seen finally signing the deeds, meaning Walker finally gets ownership of her future.
Marian’s wedding is off

In a slightly unsurprising revelation from Marian, she told her sister: ‘I’m thinking, I’d like to move back to Market Weighton and take father with me… I find the management of the household finances too much for me. No one listens to me. I don’t feel there’s much for me here anymore.’
She revealed her marriage to Mr Abbott was off, to a slightly relieved Lister. However, the reasoning for this became less favourable later on.
‘I wasn’t completely honest with you about Mr Abbott… He called a halt to things between us because someone taunted him with that silly marriage announcement in the paper, about you and Ms Walker. So, he couldn’t associate with me anymore because people say things which, of course, they do,’ Marian revealed.
While it’s not clear what Marian will decide to do, we’re hopeful of a future reunion between the Lister sisters.

Walker prepared a triumphant speech to lay the foundation stone of Lister’s casino project, which was incredibly well received by the townspeople.
She was met with cheers from the crowd, as well as her proud other half watching on.
The scenes showed just how much the pair meant to each other, signalling all may not have been lost with their future.
Walker and Lister’s romance is officially back on

‘We should go to York on Monday and sort out our wills. I’m sorry for doubting it,’ Walker said, apologising to her wife – after they packed themselves into the carriage together.
‘Don’t be. We are the only people in the whole world, on earth, who want us to be together. It won’t be easy, it’ll never be easy, but we’re both still here, aren’t we?’ Lister smiled.
