Bobby Brown has shared his concerns that the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic will ‘dive into’ the legendary singer’s personal life.

The My Prerogative singer, 53, expressed his hope that the upcoming film would ‘be about the music’ rather than Brown’s marriage to Houston.

Brown and Houston married in 1992, and their relationship was a constant source of controversy and speculation until their divorce in 2007.

Houston died in 2012 at just 48 years of age, before the couple’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, 22, died three years later.

And with I Wanna Dance with Somebody slated for its cinema release in December of this year, Brown is concerned that the film will prioritise tabloid gossip over glory.

‘I truly hope that they let [Whitney] rest and also let our relationship rest,’ Brown told Billboard.

‘I don’t know anything about [the film], but hopefully, it won’t dive into our relationship’.

The biopic, written with the blessing of Houston’s estate, is currently in production at Sony Pictures, with record executive Clive Davis attached to the project as producer.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and End of the F******g World breakout actress Naomi Ackie will star as the legendary late singer, while Davis himself will be portrayed by Oscar-nominated actor Stanley Tucci.

A poster for the film, with Ackie in character, was unveiled to audiences in April of this year.

Ackie landed the role after what producer Stella Meghie described in a statement as ‘an exhaustive search for an actress who could embody Whitney Houston’.

Moonlight’s Ashton Sanders is set to appear in the film as Brown, who is currently in the process of promoting a two-part documentary on the A&E network, Biography: Bobby Brown.

‘It was very therapeutic for me to dig deep into my guts [and go] back to the traumas of my childhood’, Brown told Billboard.

The documentary is set to feature appearances from fellow artists, including Usher and Jermaine Dupri, as well as Brown’s family and close friends.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody will hit cinemas on December 21, 2022.
