Taika Waititi has claimed that he doesn’t like to be around people that much as he finds it ‘really draining’.

The flamboyant writer and director of the upcoming Marvel blockbuster Thor: Love and Thunder doesn’t exactly give off introvert vibes, but in a new interview he said he feels that way even around loved ones.

‘It’s just really draining. With whoever – it doesn’t matter who. Even my family. But definitely people I’ve never met before,’ Taika confessed.

However, the New Zealand-born star was also keen to stress there was ‘absolutely nothing loaded’ about the comment.

He also shared, slightly confusingly, that he does still like to be surrounded by a busy environment as it helps with his creativity.

‘When there’s life around me, I feel more creative,’ he told WIRED while posing for photographs in his usual eye-catching style.

‘If it’s quiet, it feels like school. For me, the more stimulus, the better.’

The multi-hyphenate is known for running a fun set, with Cate Blanchett previously labelling the set of Thor: Ragnarok as ‘one long Mardi Gras parade’, while there’s also mention of his enjoyment of directorial ‘costume changes’.

The father of two, 46, also made passing reference to the publication about people sometimes assuming him to be queer, saying that he ‘comes off as very gay’.

Fans were also certainly invested in the supposed gay moment Chris Hemsworth’s superhero shared with Chris Pratt’s Star-lord in the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, as Taika returns to helm the next movie in the franchise after the success of his fun and irreverent Thor: Ragnarok.

Masked Singer panellist Rita played coy when initially asked about their relationship, with the 30-year-old telling Australian Vogue last September: ‘I’m in a great place in my life, that’s all I’m going to say about that.’

Since then, though, they’ve enjoyed a series of high-profile events together, not shy about cosying up on the red carpet after making their public debut together at The Suicide Squad premiere in August.
