Former Royal aide Paul Burrell shared his concerns over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s presence ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Relations between senior members of the Royal family and the Sussexes have been fraught since the pair were stripped from their titles, and things escalated further after the couple’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey last year.

However, it looks like all tension will be cast aside this weekend after Harry and Meghan were reportedly greeted by three of Her Majesty’s protection officers, who drove them from Farnborough Airport in Hampshire to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

During Thursday’s edition of Lorraine, Princess Diana’s butler, 63, told guest presenter Ranvir Singh that he’s ‘worried’ a media frenzy around Harry and Meghan will overshadow the Queen’s special weekend.

‘This is her celebration,’ he said.

‘It’s her Jubilee and it’s the people’s chance to say thank you for your devoted service to our country, and we shouldn’t be distracted from that.’

Ranvir later asked Paul if the reunion would be the perfect opportunity for Harry and Prince William to fix their relationship, following Harry’s dramatic departure from royal life.

‘The Queen wants a smooth passage,’ he added.

‘She doesn’t like fuss and bother, she likes to take a back seat which is odd because she’s Queen.

‘She doesn’t like rough conflict, of course she sent a car to get them, [Harry and Meghan] she didn’t expect them to come back in a taxi.’

He continued: ‘But there will be a cool atmosphere behind closed doors because of what’s been said in the past. Some members of the Royal Family have been burned by what Harry and Meghan have said, especially on Oprah, and they don’t like it.

‘So they would be very careful what’s said now in front of them because they could take that back to America and make it part of their commercial platform.’

Harry and Meghan will not appear alongside the Queen on the royal balcony for the Trooping the Colour today.

The line-up has been limited to working members of the royal family only, meaning Prince Andrew will also miss out.

Buckingham Palace said the decision to only include working royals was taken ‘after careful consideration’.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
