The Kunts’ song Prince Andrew Is A Sweaty Nonce is climbing up the charts as the UK celebrates the start of the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.

The Essex punk band is known for their sweary protest songs, having previously given us back-to-back festive singles aimed at Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Announcing their intent to release such a song aimed at Prince Andrew earlier in May, as their way of marking the Platinum Jubilee, and the track officially dropped on May 27.

At the time of publication, Prince Andrew Is A Sweaty Nonce is number 12 on the country’s Official Trending Chart, although it won’t be revealed until Friday whether or not it appears in the Official Singles Chart.

The Kunts’ previously said they were aiming for it to reach number two on the charts as ‘they’re never gonna let it be number one’.

Lyrics to the song include: ‘The grand old Duke of York/ He said he didn’t sweat/ So why did he pay 12million quid/ To a girl he’d never met?’, in reference to Prince Andrew’s out of court settlement with Virginia Giuffre, who claimed Andrew had sexually abused her when she was 17 years old after she was trafficked by convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The prince denied the allegations, and there was no admission of liability in the deal he reached, for an undisclosed sum thought to be in the region of £12m.

Prince Andrew, who stepped down from public life in the aftermath of the Epstein scandal, was set to support his mother, the Queen, at the Platinum Jubilee service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s on Friday.

However, on Thursday a Buckingham Palace spokesperson announced that the Duke of York had tested positive for Covid and ‘with regret will no longer be attending tomorrow’s service’.

Other recent releases eyeing the charts include Alfie Boe and Sarah Brightman’s new recording of the national anthem, alongside the NHS Voices of Care Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Sex Pistols’ re-issue of their once-banned punk rock song, which shares its title with the national anthem, in physical form.
