Former Love Island star Rachel Finni believes frontwoman Laura Whitmore ’doesn’t fit hosting’ the popular programme.
During a sit down on Murad Merali’s podcast in April, the 29-year-old reality star revealed that she was ‘kind of gutted’ when it was confirmed that Laura, will be back presenting this year’s show, as she thought ‘we’d get a Maya Jama or AJ Odudu.’
Rachel – who arrived in the villa as the first ever Black bombshell – had suggested that the 37-year-old Irish TV presenter only got her role because she’s married to the show’s narrator Iain Stirling, 34.
‘The benefits you get from being married to the narrator [Iain] because she’s not a great host,’ she said.
Shortly after, Laura clapped back at the claims via Instagram Stories and explained how she has ‘never got a job because of a guy that I’ve dated.’
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Rachel addressed Laura’s response and expressed that she never said a bad word about her presenting abilities.

‘Caroline Flack was known for having fun with dating,’ said Rachel (Picture: Rex)
‘I never criticised her hosting skills,’ she said. ‘I just said she doesn’t fit hosting Love Island. How does she relate to the show? She doesn’t.
‘I think she is a perfect fit for music, talk shows and radio shows.’
Season one to five of the annual dating show was fronted by the late Caroline Flack – who died by suicide in 2020 – and Rachel believes the late star had ‘ a genuine connection with each and everyone of the islanders.’
‘Caroline Flack was known for having fun with dating. She was someone that loved to have fun. she added.
‘Even when she got engaged, she gave emotion and had a real warmth.’

The official line-up for this year’s show was announced on Monday, which stars footballer Michael Owen’s daughter Gemma, and the first ever contestant with a cochlear implant, Tasha Ghouri.
In what could be the biggest shake-up to date, the contestants will wear second-hand clothes on the series in an effort to become ‘more eco-friendly’, with eBay being announced as the ITV programme’s first ever ‘Pre-Loved Fashion Partner’.
The popular ITV programme has been criticised in the past for being ‘too white’ and lacking in ‘body diversity,’ after viewers described the entertainment show as ‘toxic.’

When asked if there was anything that she wished she knew in hindsight, Rachel said that if she had a second chance she would remember ‘it was just a game show.’
‘I didn’t need the fame,’ she explained.
‘I had a good job, I had a good life. I wish I knew it was about being a memorable character. Because then I wouldn’t have been upset because my expectations wouldn’t have been so high.’
Love Island returns on Monday June 6 on ITV2.
