Sarah Faith Griffiths has had an absolutely stellar year, and it’s not over yet.

The musician, who goes by the stage name Griff, has been showered with awards, gained a huge following of fans, is performing at festivals and sharing the stage with one of the biggest pop acts of the decade.

Griff was named the Rising star at the 2021 Brit Awards, and is currently supporting Dua Lipa on her long-delayed Future Nostalgia tour.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk at the BBC Radio One Big Weekend, Griff admits it is ‘terrifying’ to share the stage with massive names, but ‘I try not to think about it.’

‘It’s obviously a huge honour, but more than anything you hope you don’t mess it up. It’s like “Right, the pressure’s on now.”‘

At just 21 years old, Griff is performing sold-out stadium shows alongside New Rules singer Dua, who she dubs ‘inspirational’ – and who is ‘really good at wining and dining you.’

‘On days off she’ll take you to like her favourite restaurant, she’ll give you her favourite wine and favourite food, she just knows how to do it,’ Griff says.

‘It’s been really cool, it’s inspiring watching what [Dua] has achieved.

‘As a female artist, in the UK especially it’s hard, and she’s obviously the one that’s done it. It’s really inspiring to see how hard she’s worked, how big it is – every single night it’s a sold-out area.’

For Griff herself, who released her debut single in 2019, there was always a risk that her fledgling career would stutter during the pandemic, when lockdowns meant there was no live music, but she has come out the other side stronger than ever.

And there are a few things that Griff hopes to achieve now that she’s finally playing to crowds.

‘I just want people to connect to the songs,’ she says. ‘I want people to be really moved by the music.

‘There’s a lot of music that comes out these days, and with social media and TikTok music’s becoming a really weird thing. The best thing about festivals is you can watch music live and really feel something, so I really hope that people feel that connection.’

Griff’s time on Dua’s tour comes to an end in a few weeks, but the rising star has plenty more up her sleeve, including festival appearances – and a new tour run with none other than Ed Sheeran.

And her consensus on Ed? ‘We’ve hung out a few times and he’s like, the best.’

After the mania of touring, the musician is set on releasing an album of her own.

Griff currently has her 2019 EP Mirror Talk, along with a barrage of singles including an upcoming release with Sigrid, and is now planning to ‘regroup’ with herself.

‘In lockdown we couldn’t do live shows and now we’re just catching up with ourselves,’ she explains.

‘Then we’re just taking a pause for a minute and then making an album.’
