Strictly Come Dancing winner Rose Ayling-Ellis, who is Deaf, has thanked those behind the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert for making it ‘accessible’ for many, by having a team of British Sign Language interpreters.

Rose is one of many stars who has been present at the Jubilee celebrations this weekend, which millions of people have been tuning into at home.

Last night’s Party At The Palace event was the highlight for many, with over 13 million viewers watching at its peak on Saturday night.

EastEnders favourite Rose was one of the lucky ones in attendance in the crowd and was pleased to see there were measures taken to ensure she had full access to all the performances.

She reposted a video from the group Deaf Talent Collective, which showed an interpreter signing in BSL during Eurovision hero Sam Ryder’s performance.

‘Thank you for making it accessible. Not just for me but for many others,’ Rose captioned it.

The group themselves posted a selection of clips from the night, and added: ‘What an amazing evening at The Palace ❤️‍🔥 it was an honour to be involved.

‘Thank you so much to @performanceinterpreting and the awesome BSL interpreting team, you rocked it.’

Rose has done a huge amount for raising awareness for the Deaf community in recent months.

She was the first Deaf contestant in Strictly history, lifting the glitter ball last year, and was awarded a Bafta last month for TV’s must-see moment.

The award specifically honoured Rose and Giovanni’s silent dance, which they performed as their couple’s choice routine twice last series.

The routine was danced to Clean Bandit’s Symphony, and viewers later saw the backing track cut out for a few seconds, offering viewers a small insight into Rose and the Deaf community’s world.

When accepting her award – which was the only one voted for by the public – 27-year-old Rose said: ‘It is a very special moment for us because hopefully, it showed how powerful TV can be, where it has actually introduced changes.

‘It has even helped the BSL (British Sign Language) law be passed recently.’

She added: ‘It made people stand up more for sign language and just better Deaf awareness and positiveness towards people. We have still got a long way to go but it is such a great start.

‘We are so, so, so proud of it.’

The actress, who has been Deaf since birth, has actively campaigned for BSL to be recognised as an official language and be given legal status in the UK.

In April, a Bill was passed in the House of Lords to legally recognise BSL as an official language in England, Wales and Scotland, after being championed by MP Rosie Cooper.
