Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas accidentally confused Eurovision superstar Sam Ryder with Geordie singer Sam Fender at last night’s Platinum Jubilee concert.

The judge was among the celebrities who joined in the Party at the Palace celebrations on Saturday, which kicked off with Queen Elizabeth II starring in an adorable Paddington Bear skit.

Shirley posed alongside Ryder backstage at the star-studded event before he took to the stage with a performance so spectacular he’s being dubbed ‘the new Freddie Mercury’.

Ryder wrapped his arm around the pannelist and flashed a peace sign while they both beamed at the camera.

‘Wow, I’m in awe,’ Shirley captioned the photo on her Instagram Story, mistakenly tagging Fender in the snap.

Luckily her followers were paying close attention and pointed out Shirley’s error, prompting her to swiftly delete the post and re-upload it with the correct tag.

‘My fans saved me again lol,’ she penned. ‘@samhairwolfryder wonderful to meet you.’

While both are singers, Fender is best known for his hits Seventeen Going Under and Get You Down.

Ryder, however, shot to fame with his glistening performance of Space Man at this year’s Eurovision, landing the UK the second place spot after Ukraine winners Kalush Orchestra.

Some 22,000 people heard live speeches by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales amid performances from stars including Diana Ross, Duran Duran, and the rock band Queen at the Buckingham Palace event on Saturday night.

Impressive visuals of the Queen were projected onto the royal residence during the patriotic two-and-a-half-hour event, and drones drew three-dimensional corgis and cups of tea in the sky before a closing performance by Diana Ross.

Meanwhile, millions more people tuned in to watch the concert from their homes via BBC One.
