Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford revealed that he wasn’t particularly thrilled over the 2012 finale.

The hit drama – which explored the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite – left fans slightly disappointed when finding out the unassuming Dan Humphrey, aka Lonely Boy (Penn Badgley) was the master of manipulation behind the online blog.

Due to the intense popularity of the show many continue to vocalise their annoyance over Dan’s reveal to this day, and Chace – who starred as heartthrob Nate Archibald – has offered his hot take on the final episode.

‘I think I was like, “Dan was Gossip Girl? Like what, what are you talking about?”‘ he said.

‘I think the fans did say that [they thought] Nate was Gossip Girl,’ he added during his interview on The Project.

The OG programme – which also starred Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick – inspired the 2021 reboot series which picks up eight years after we found out Dan was the iconic blogger Gossip Girl.

This time though, viewers were introduced to an even more tech-savvy gang of privileged Constance Billard and St Jude’s students.

Former showrunner Joshua Safran revealed that the identity of Gossip Girl for a long time was actually another character entirely – Serena Van Der Woodsen’s younger brother, Eric – until leaks meant that writers had to shift tack.

Speaking at the Vulture Festival in Los Angeles, Safran said: ‘We worked hard to kind of lay in tiny seeds about it being Eric, and then the NY Post wrote an article saying that Gossip Girl was Eric so we were like, “We gotta scratch that”.’

The revival – which has been picked up for series two – also features the original show’s narrator Kristen Bell returning as the voice of the titular character, the reboot was hailed by the steamer as its most-watched original series over the first weekend of availability.
