Richard Osman is one of the nation’s best-loved presenters and authors, and will learn more about his family’s history on this week’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are?.

Richard is most well-known for his co-hosting gig on Pointless, alongside Alexander Armstrong.

However, he recently announced he would be exiting the role after 12 years, in order to concentrate on his writing.

He released his first book, titled The Thursday Murder Club, back in 2020 and is continuing to win over fans across the world with his brilliant series of novels.

Tonight, Richard will be seen on-screen learning a little bit more about his past, including one relative whose life links heavily to his now.

Richard discovers his four-times great-grandfather Gabriel Gillam’s involvement in a huge murder case back in the 1800s.

This is weirdly similar to the plot of his books, which follow the goings-on of a group of pensioners at a retirement village who investigate unsolved crimes.

Ahead of Richard’s stint tonight, here’s everything you need to know about the presenter and author, who, standing at two metres (6ft 7 inches) tall, is pretty hard to miss.

Richard signed a deal with Viking Press, part of Penguin Random House, for the rights to his debut novel and one other back in 2019.

He released his first book, The Thursday Murder Club, the following year, which has sold well over a million copies, including 45,000 UK hardback copies in the first three days after publication.

His second crime novel, The Man Who Died Twice, was published in 2021 and the third book in the series, The Bullet That Missed, will be released in September 2022

The TV star has previously shared that the series will contain four novels, and after ‘being in talks’ for a TV adaptation, he revealed that Steven Spielberg had acquired the book’s film rights.

The film will be written and directed by Ol Parker, who wrote and directed the 2018 musical film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

Is Richard Osman married?

Last month, the presenter revealed he is engaged to actress Ingrid Oliver, who has appeared in Doctor Who

They went public with their relationship in late 2021, and Richard shared the news they were set to wed in an interview with author Marian Keyes, for The Guardian.

They first sparked engagement rumours earlier this year, when Ingrid was seen out with an emerald ring on her engagement finger, in pictures obtained by MailOnline.

Marian asked the author: ‘Is it true you are getting married?’ to which he replied ‘Yes. Exciting, isn’t it?’

The couple are said to have met during the coronavirus lockdown in the summer of 2020, and Ingrid reportedly moved into her other half’s north London home last year.

Richard has two grown-up children, a daughter called Ruby and a son called Sonny, from a previous relationship.

Who Do You Think You Are? airs tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
