Taking a step away from fast fashion, this year eBay is first pre-loved fashion partner to couple up with Love Island.

eBay have partnered with celebrity stylist and second-hand enthusiast, Amy Bannerman, who has previously styled stars including Dua Lipa and Rita Ora – and she’s shared her top tips for finding second hand gems.

Her picks include high street to vintage gems, designer brands from across all the decades.

Amy Bannerman said: “I have used eBay to buy and sell pre-loved items for over 20 years and have found so many fashion gems along the way.

“There is nothing more satisfying than winning something you have always lusted after –  for example I found a velvet Christopher Kane dress I have had on my mental shopping list for ages, it was £90 but retails in store now for £995… if that doesn’t make you want to shop pre-loved I don’t know what will!

How to find the best designer items this summer on eBay

Think pre-loved first – when seeking out the best designer items for this summer, pre-loved is the best route to go. You’ll save so much money and in extending the life cycle of the item, you’re protecting the environment too. For example I found a velvet Christopher Kane dress, that retails in store now for £995, but I got it as pre-loved for just £90 on eBayGo in with a plan – I often browse through pictures on social media, check out the runways and look to my favourite influencers and celebrities for inspiration before heading to eBay. That is what I did when shopping for each of the Islanders, with their style preferences in mind I know what I am looking for and it makes the browsing process a lot easierSearch terms are key – people spell items incorrectly, so have a play around with spelling to find the designer piece you’re dreaming of.  The more specific your search terms, the better, as it can be overwhelming when you’re presented with so many product options.Use filters to narrow things down – there are so many amazing listings on eBay, but to save time and find what you’re really looking for, check out the filters. You can navigate by size, colour, brand, location, price and more! Be the better bidder – When you bid don’t put an even amount. Put a more unexpected and uneven figure and bid just before the auction ends. For example, if you put £20.86 and someone else has bid £20 (most people do even numbers), you will win. This has helped me to get a lot of the standout pieces for Love Island this year.Bag a bargain – eBay has a ‘Best Offer’ function, which means that if you see ‘Make Offer’ listed on an item, you have the option to contact the seller with your preferred price. If they accept your offer, it could help your pennies stretch even further when trying to get your hands on that designer item.Get notifications – If you’ve seen a designer item that you want, you can set up notifications so that eBay alerts you if someone lists the product on site. Simply type in the designer product you’re looking for, select save search, and eBay will email you when your desired designer piece is available to buy.Opt for trusted sellers – Look for sellers with over 99% positive feedback and ‘trusted dealer’, ‘premium service’ or ‘top‑rated seller’ badges. eBay assigns these logos to trusted sellers based on positive feedback.Take a closer look – The beauty of eBay is being able to communicate with the seller unlike some resale sites. So make sure you put this to good use and ask any further questions or request more images. Being able to communicate with sellers is super helpful, for example when I needed something last minute for the Islanders, I looked for something in London and then was able to collect it in person the same day.Location, location, location – Make sure your location is UK only. Import taxes from the US can sting you and since Brexit, the same thing is happening with European buys. Stay local and it’ll save you money.

Islanders will have the option to wear pre-loved clothes this season, with a shared wardrobe situated in the new villa for the first time ever.

Amy has focused on four big trends including blurred lines – genderless dressing, love me forever – investment pieces, Y2K – going back to the 2000’s, and dopamine dressing – a focus on pure joy.

The pre-loved clothes sourced from eBay span a number of decades, and include top finds such as a velvet Christopher Kane dress which cost just £90 from eBay.

Jemma Tadd, Head of Fashion at eBay UK said: “The overwhelming response we’ve had to the initial announcement is testament to how much this change is needed, as well as the public appetite for this. We cannot wait to see all of the outfits that Amy and her team have found to come through on the show this year and remove any stigmas around pre-loved.

“We hope when people see this on the Islanders, it inspires them to either add a couple of pre-loved pieces to their wardrobes, or sell stuff they no longer use to keep things in circulation.
