Love Island fans are convinced Gemma Owen’s ex Jacques O’Neill will finally reveal that she is the daughter of football legend Michael Owen.
As Friday’s episode concluded, narrator Iain Stirling introduced the teaser for Sunday night, an unknown boy was shown making his entrance, who – while not officially confirmed by Love Island – is believed to be rugby player Jacques, 23.
In a moment that made viewers’ jaws drop, international dressage rider Gemma could be heard telling the others that he was her ex-boyfriend. Cue the carnage!
While a Love Island is yet to confirm Jacques as the new bombshell, his Instagram account has already been resharing good luck messages on his Story ahead of his debut.
And fans believe his arrival could spark a particular revelation about Gemma’s dad Michael – who played as a striker for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City, as well as for the England national team.
‘Would it not be hilarious if Gemma’s ex manages to tell everyone her dad is Michael Owen before she does,’ one person tweeted.
‘Gemma’s ex is gonna bait all the tea that Michael Owen is her dad,’ another added.
After making his debut in the Premier League in 1997, Michael sports star finished as joint top scorer with 18 goals, sharing the Premier League Golden Boot. He played his first match for England in 1998, becoming England’s youngest player and youngest goalscorer at the time.
During Monday’s first episode Gemma was slammed for being ‘rude’ on the show to other contestants as well as for being too young to appear on a reality dating programme, especially after being paired up with 27-year-old David Sancilmenti.

However, despite the criticism, Michael has defended his daughter, calling her ‘mature’ and flagging that he was in the public eye at a younger age during his football career.
He shared: ‘She has had two years more than I had to get ready for life in the public eye.

‘Also, she’s a mature 19. She’s a bit like me in that regard. I was playing for Liverpool when I was 17, and having to make friends with 23, 24, 25-year-olds.
‘The bottom line is, she’s an adult and I have to trust her to make sensible decisions,’ he told The Daily Mail.
Love Island returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2.
