Microsoft has re-announced Forza Motorsport and it’s going to be out next spring with a physics engine that’s 48 times better than before.

It’s been so long since Microsoft has mentioned its new Forza Motorsport game that many fans had begun to fear it’d been cancelled, especially given the success of the more mainstream friendly Forza Horizon series.

The game finally made a reappearance at the Xbox & Bethesda showcase and while there was no formal explanation for its disappearance it seems developer Turn 10 Studios has been busy making the most technically advanced Xbox Series X/S game possible.

Although Forza Motorsport is a cross-gen game (Xbox One footage leaked out a few weeks ago) the Xbox Series X/S version will feature real-time ray-tracing, dynamic time and weather for every track, and a physics engine that has 48 times the fidelity of Forza Motorsport 7 from 2017.

Why this isn’t called Forza Motorsport 8 isn’t clear, but rumours have suggested that the game was originally intended to be free-to-play, with a reliance on microtransactions – something the series has dabbled with before.

There was no sign of that in the new preview though, just lots of photorealistic shots of cars driving really fast, with an especially impressive sequence involving fireworks at night.

Turn10 was also keen to show off how the change in weather affects the temperature of the tarmac, as well as the fact that there is now tyre an fuel management options when you pitstop.

We’re not entirely convinced about the car damage though, as while all the stuff about individual scratches sounded impressive the crash that was show was very minor.

As such, it’s not clear if Turn10 is going to be able to get around the fact that manufacturers don’t want to show their cars as complete wrecks. So Wreckfest probably has nothing to worry about.

Forza Horizon 5 was also part of the showcase, with the announcement of a Hot Wheels DLC expansion that will be coming out on July 19.

As with most things, news of the expansion had leaked out earlier, but it did look a lot of fun and the same concept was very popular in Forza Horizon 4.
