Microsoft’s big showcase event detailed a bit more about Diablo 4, but will the game feature crossplay?

The Xbox Series X version of Diablo 4 was shown off in detail at the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase at the weekend, helped by the fact that Microsoft is currently in the process of trying to buy publisher Activision Blizzard.

Crossplay has seen a massive push by Xbox and Epic Games in recent years, with Microsoft supporting it for most of its first party games and Epic keen to get everyone interconnected with Fortnite.

Diablo 4’s trailer focused more on grossing people out and having a full look at the action role-playing game, with developers discussing how much fun the game is going to be. They also dived into the various things they’re bringing to the multiplayer side of the game.

Does Diablo 4 have crossplay and cross-save?

Thankfully, the game does in fact have crossplay and cross-progression baked into it. First indications of this came during the beta sign-up, as it only asked for a Battle.net account and no specific platform selection.

In multiple interviews, the developers have come forward and said it’s on their radar, but this was back in 2019 and 2021. With Immortal supporting all the features, it was safe to Diablo 4 would do too.

For those on PlayStation platforms fearing the acquisition, Microsoft has been really good with ensuring that Minecraft has been cross-compatible with platforms that you’d assume they’d drop support for.

Does Diablo 4 have local couch co-op?

Diablo 3’s debut on consoles brought with it local co-op, with you and a buddy being able to take on the hoards of Hell in drop-in/drop-out co-op.

Blizzard took notice of how popular it was and brought it back to Diablo 4.

Does Diablo 4 have PvP?

Blizzard promised during Diablo 3’s development that player-versus-player combat was going to come to the series. While you could brawl with other players in your party in the third entry, it never became a proper feature and was cancelled.

While not exactly a structured competitive mode, there will be zones in Diablo 4 where players can whack each other and test their might. If you’re especially good, you will get marked as a champion and that raises the chance of you getting ganged up on, as the rewards for killing you increase.

Outside of this, there’s no real news on a more traditional PvP mode.

Will Diablo 4 be on Game Pass?

Right now, the game is not coming to Game Pass. It was weirdly one of the of the only games at the event that wasn’t.

If Blizzard eventually comes under Microsoft’s umbrella, it’s almost guaranteed that they will be bringing the game to Game Pass, but that’s more of a legal question.

It probably helps that the company has experience supporting Apple and Linux, as well as presumably seeing games as software first rather than hoarded treasure.

How to sign up for the Diablo 4 beta

It’s really easy to sign up for the Diablo 4 beta, you just need a Blizzard Battle.net account. Head to the bottom of the page and hit sign up to be taken through the process.

The sign-up requires you to use a general Battle.net account and no platform selection, so you’ll be able to download the beta when it launches from your chosen storefront and begin playing with just your Battle.net account.

There’s no date set for the beta just yet, but it’d be safe to assume it’ll come out after the Overwatch 2 beta. This could be in 2023, the same year that Diablo 4 is set to release.
