New Love Island bombshell Jay Younger and Gemma Owen have something in common, they’re both related to a football legend!

Jay, 28, is gearing up to enter the notorious Majorcan villa in scenes due to air on Tuesday night.

Like Michael Owen’s daughter, the investment analyst also has family ties to the beautiful game, as his grandad, Tommy Younger, used to play for Liverpool FC.

‘He was captain of Scotland back in the 1950s,’ Jay enthused. ‘He was in the hall of fame for Liverpool and he was in the hall of fame for Hibernian FC.’

Younger enjoyed an international career and was capped by Scotland 24 times, in an unbroken sequence spanning three years.

He made his debut on 4 May 1955 in a friendly international against Portugal at Hampden Park, Glasgow.

Younger also had the honour of keeping goal for the Scottish side during the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. His appearance at the finals against Paraguay was also his last appearance for the national side.

After retiring, he became vice president of the Scottish Football Association in May 1983.

Younger held the position until his death eight months later on 13 January 1984, aged 53.

Will it only be a matter of time before Jay and Gemma are exchanging stories about the sport?

Well, we need Gemma to confess to her fellow islanders just who her dad is first…

Newcomer Jay reckons he genuinely has what most females want. ‘I’ve got a good job, I think I am a good looking lad and I have a lot of fun so I feel like I could add a lot of value to their lives if they add a lot of value to mine,’ he bragged.

‘I think I am at the point in my life where it would be quite fun to find someone and have fun along the way,’ Jay said of signing up for Love Island.

‘And doing it in Mallorca and in the Villa would be a great opportunity, so why not?’
