The creators of Love, Victor have addressed when they came to the decision to bring the curtain down on the show at season 3… while teasing that ‘anything’s a possibility’ when it comes to further spin-offs in future.

On Wednesday, all episodes of the third season of the series are dropping on Disney Plus and on Hulu in the US, revealing whether Victor (Michael Cimino) decided to stay with his boyfriend Benji (George Sear) or embark on a new romance with Rahim (Andrew Keyvan) after becoming entangled in a love triangle.

The show first launched in 2020 as a spin-off of the acclaimed 2018 film Love, Simon, and is set in the same universe, with Victor turning to Simon (Nick Robinson) for advice when figuring out his sexuality, eventually coming to the realisation that he’s gay.

During a recent conversation with Metro.co.uk, executive producers Brian Tanen, Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker spoke about the programme coming to an end, with Isaac revealing that they decided the third season would be its last ‘well in advance’.

‘It wasn’t always the plan, but it was something that we talked with Hulu and decided well in advance of the third season, which was really amazing,’ said Isaac, who also co-created Love, Victor with Elizabeth, having previously written the screenplay for Love, Simon with her.

‘It allowed us to plan ahead and craft the ending of this story exactly as we wanted to.’

He continued: ‘I hope people feel when they see it that it was a real full circle and there’s a real sense of completion for Victor and all his friends on their coming-of-age journeys. So it was really nice to be able to map that out well in advance and get to this full circle ending.’

Elizabeth chimed in to add that it’s ‘always a gift in TV and not really the norm’ when you know when a project is going to draw to a close, allowing them to ‘plan everything out very meticulously and really end on your terms’.

‘It’s obviously bittersweet for us because we love this world and this show, but it also did feel very baked into the DNA of the show that everybody goes on these journeys and then it wraps up at this point. So we’re just thrilled we got to do it exactly how we wanted to do it,’ she said.

While Love, Victor is reaching its conclusion soon, the fact that the show was a spin-off itself from Love, Simon has sparked speculation among fans of possible further spin-offs in future.

Perhaps Rahim’s story could be explored further with the character as the lead in his own project? Or maybe Lucy (Ava Capri), who’s dating Lake (Bebe Wood) in season three, could be the next main star? Or even Victor’s younger brother, Adrian (Mateo Fernandez)?

When asked about the possibility of the Love, Victor universe continuing, Isaac explained that it’s definitely something that’s being considered.

‘I think anything’s a possibility. It’s such a great group, we love this world,’ he said.

‘Elizabeth and I have been doing it since the movie, Love, Simon, which I think was about five or six years when we started writing that.’

He emphasised how ‘hard’ it is ‘to say no’ in light of fan demand… so does that mean the love for the show could result in another spin-off emerging in the near future?

‘So like I said, it’s bittersweet to say goodbye. It definitely feels like this chapter is over, but we’re so lucky to have such a passionate fanbase that were the opportunity to arise for something else, it’s hard to say no,’ he said.

Our eyes are peeled!

Love, Victor season 3 drops on June 15 on Disney Plus and Hulu in the US.
