The final instalment of Stranger Things volume 2 is on its way and Netflix have treated fans to a first look teasing what’s to come.

Volume 1 – which premiered on May 27 – ramped up the horror and saw the show’s main characters further away from each other than ever before, and the final two episodes will certainly be one to remember.

The latest pictures show Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Dr. Brenner, aka Papa, (Matthew Modine) in the underground lab.

While Jonathan, (Charlie Heaton) Mike, (Finn Wolfhard) Will, (Noah Schnapp) and Argyle (Eduardo Franco) continue their journey to Nevada desert to search for Eleven and the NINA Project.

Another still shows Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), Hopper (David Harbour), Murray, (Brett Gelman) and Dmitri (Tom Wlaschiha) attempting to break out of the Russian prison, while Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and the group hold the fort down in Hawkins.

The Duffer Brothers have already promised audiences that ‘everybody’s life [will be] on the line’ during the ‘full-blown horror film’ finale.

The latest instalment also saw the introduction of a new gruesome villain known as Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) – who was revealed to, but fans should expect things to get even creepier, as producer and writer Matt Duffer assures the show wants to explore ‘darker themes.’

‘A lot of [the darker tone] was driven by the fact that we had these — I still call them kids, even though I know they’re not kids, but they feel like my kids — is that they were heading into high school. And it felt like the right time to put them into a full-blown horror film,’ Matt told EW.

‘We’re dealing with darker themes, and issues that come along with being a teenager, because for at least Ross and I, and I think for most people, high school is a challenging time. And you’re experiencing a lot of dark emotions for the first time.’

That leaves viewers to sweat over the fate of their favourite characters, whether it’s much-loved Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) or newcomer Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), or perhaps Max (Sadie Sink) who only narrowly escaped death in episode four.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 is available to stream from July 1.
