Hololive’s streaming stars will sometimes go on hiatus, but Pekora taking a break is very rare.

Streamers come in all shapes, sizes and dimensions these days, as virtual YouTubers have taken the world by storm since coming to prominence during the pandemic.

The streaming agency Hololive uses anime characters mapped to the face of the streamer, leaving them anonymous and aiding in shifting merchandise. Hololive also uses motion capture – similar to CodeMiko – for full stage shows and variety shows.

Usada Pekora is a fan favourite, taking part in various advertising sponsorships and has over the last couple of years taken a couple of hiatuses due to ill health. Now, after a month break, she has returned to the streaming world.

Pekora has been streaming non-stop since her debut in 2019, with only a very few breaks in between. Her YouTube channel has accumulated over 1.94 million subscribers and regularly brings in around 25,000 viewers each stream.

The rabbit themed streamer has brought in a total of £1,851,381 in YouTube superchats – Google’s form of donations – and has been the face of a curry sponsorship in the past.

Hololive plans on bringing Pekora to HoloEarth, their new metaverse gaming project and will feature her in the Alternative brand which aims to return the characters to how they were originally planned.

Her break was to rest her vocal chords, which she says has worked. Training with a vocal coach, she made a faster recovery than expected.

Pekora has gained an audience for her bouncy behaviour, with her peculiar and distinct laugh being an in-joke amongst the community.

Cover Corp., the owners of Hololive currently have a roster of 68 streamers, with nine in Indonesia, 11 in their English branch, and a male centric arm called Holostars.

Recently, a member called Uruha Rushia was terminated from the company due to leaking information and has made her return under a different name. Another member, Kiryu Coco has returned to her original channel as K-Son, generating 1.2 million subscribers since her re-debut.
