Gemma Owen suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue during Tuesday’s Love Island, after accidentally calling Luca Bish, Jacques [O’Neill] who happens to be her ex-boyfriend.

After Afia Tonksmor was the first contestant of the series to leave the villa, fans saw fishmonger Luca playfully hugging Gemma before calling him Jacques – and to make matters worse, the rugby player was sitting right next to them as it happened.

Gemma’s blunder didn’t go unnoticed by the other contestants, with Amber Beckford pointing out: ‘Did you just call him something else?’

After the 19-year-old stressed that she had ‘no interest in getting back’ with Jacques, and it didn’t take long before all was forgiven.

Following the frosty interaction, body language expert Judi James shed some light to Metro.co.uk, and explained how the ‘play-fighting looked like a convincing step in the pairing process.’

‘I was more concerned with the rough way Luca was rocking Gemma back against his own chest,’ Judi said.

‘She was eating and he hit her so hard he was winding her and she could have choked on her food. Jacques was sitting close, this ritual of ownership and domination could have been to get Gemma’s attention and to spray his territory in front of Jacques.’

After Gemma and Luca recreated Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood’s ‘sit back down, I’m sat’ meme, the pair started grinning and put the mishap behind them.

Judi noted that their ‘make-up’ after the dispute showed Gemma as ‘dominant as she got Luca to move to her on the seat rather than the other way round.’

‘But I’m worried about Gemma getting stuck in more possessive behaviour, especially as she seems to really like Luca,’ she added.

The ITV2 dating series returned on June 6 and the first episodes focused on the blossoming romance between Gemma, who is the daughter of footballer Michael Owen, and Italian heartthrob David Sanclimenti, 27.

However, the love triangle turned into a square when Luca revealed he fancied Gemma and later chose to couple up with her, leaving Davide to choose Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu who he also shared a romantic connection with.

Fans quickly pointed out the ‘problematic age gap’ between Davide and Gemma, who have eight years between them.

The outrage has also reportedly sparked more than 200 Ofcom complaints as many felt that the 19-year-old was too young for Davide.

In one episode, the two addressed the potential issue, with Davide saying as they chatted beside the pool: ‘What do you think about the fact that I am much older than you? I mean, you are not bothered by that?’

Gemma replied: ‘No, it’s not an issue for me at all. I feel like if it was I wouldn’t have wanted to get to know you in the first place.

‘And, as I’ve said, I have been speaking to guys and seeing guys that are much older. It’s not something that I’m not used to or that you’re the only one or anything like that, it’s very normal for me.’
