Following in the footsteps of Normal People, Sally Rooney’s novel Conversations With Friends has been adapted into a TV series.
The series follows college student Frances and her best friend Bobbi who meet writer Melissa while performing spoken-word poetry.
Melissa invites them to her home where they meet her husband, an actor named Nick, and their lives become dramatically entangled.
The series stars Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn as Nick alongside Alison Oliver as Frances, Sasha Lane as Bobbi, and Jemima Kirke as Melissa.
But where is the show set and where is it filmed? Here’s everything you need to know:
Where is the show set?
Like Normal People, most of the show is set in Dublin, where book author Rooney studied for a number of years at Trinity College.
Main characters Frances and Bobbi also study at the famous learning institution, which is used as a filming location within the show.
‘I’m confident we’re going to find fresh and interesting ways of dramatizing the novel’s dynamics, and I’m excited to watch the process take shape, author Rooney said when the BBC first announced the adaptation in February 2020.
Where is Conversations With Friends filmed?
As the show is set in Dublin, many of the scenes were shot in the city.
Frances’s flat was filmed on Hardwicke Street, north of Dublin city centre.
Melissa and Nick’s home is in the city’s Monkstown neighbourhood near Seapoint Beach.
There are scenes filmed at Trinity College where Frances and Bobbi attend, as well as at Queen’s University and Campbell College.
Despite being set in Dublin, some scenes for the show were also filmed in Belfast.
The Lyric Theatre was also used for many interior shots, including a scene in which Frances attends a theatre production starring Nick.
Another cultural hotspot in the city, the MAC Theatre, is the setting for Melissa’s book launch.

Elsewhere in Ireland, scenes in the series were also filmed in Ballycastle in County Antrim and Bray in County Wicklow.
Some beach walk scenes were also shot on the Causeway Coast.
In the novel, two of the characters go on holiday to the French region of Brittany, but in the series, this is changed to Croatia with scenes shot in Stari Grad and on the island of Hvar.
These holiday scenes may be familiar to some viewers already, with Hvar and the neighbouring city of Dubrovnik serving as filming locations for the fantasy epic Game Of Thrones.
