Regé-Jean Page is ‘in talks’ to reprise his role as the dashing Duke of Hastings in the upcoming season of Bridgerton, according to reports.

When season one of Netflix’s regency drama was released in December 2020, viewers around the world quickly became enamoured by Simon Basset, played by the 34-year-old actor, who starred opposite Phoebe Dynevor as debutante Daphne Bridgerton.

However, in April 2021, fans were devastated after it was confirmed that Regé would not be returning alongside his co-star, breaking hearts across the globe as the star described the ‘pleasure and privilege’ of being a part of the show.

But it looks like Regé could be set to feature in season three – which will focus on Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton’s romance.

‘Rege-Jean was always very open about his intention to quit the show after the first season and to move on to other projects,’ a source told the publication.

‘But recently there has been a dialogue between him and the show’s bosses. Nothing has been formally agreed yet, but watch this space,’ the insider added to The Sun.

Everybody stay calm! Stay calm.

After Rege confirmed his departure from the hit show, executive producer Shonda Rhimes has revealed that she asked him if he wanted to return to which he declined.

Recalling how ‘everybody lost their minds’ when it was revealed he was leaving, she explained how they ended up inviting Rege back as a result.

After the actor said that he ‘signed up to do this one lovely story,’ Shonda explained: ‘And I don’t blame him for that. I think that he was really smart to leave the perfection as the perfection.’

Rege’s breakout role on the popular programme also sparked James Bond rumours, with many suggesting he could be the next 007.

Shutting down speculation he insisted he wasn’t allowed to talk about the ‘B word’ during an appearance on the Graham Norton Show, saying: ‘Bridgerton is the only B word I am allowed to say – I am not going to talk about the other B words!’

The Netflix series – which is based on Julia Quinn’s collection of romance novels – will also be skipping ahead to the fourth book titled Romancing Mister Bridgerton which focuses on Penelope and Colin’s love story, whereas the third book, An Offer From A Gentleman, zones in on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson).

Although fans were a little disheartened to discover season two wouldn’t be as steamy as the previous, new showrunner Jess Brownell – who is replacing Chris Van Dusen in series three – suggested things might be turning up a notch this time round.

‘I want to balance that out with quite a bit of sexiness and romance,’ she told Variety.

‘I think that’s so important to the show. We’ll get the chance to go deeper with them and push them to more serious sides and see what that looks like, so you’ll be seeing new new levels.’
