If you loved Netflix’s recent adaptation of Gerard Way’s comic book series The Umbrella Academy, then you’re no doubt pretty pumped to hear that after a lengthy hiatus, the third season is finally here!

The new season will see the likes of Elliot Page, Tom Hopper and Robert Sheehan reprise their roles as well as some new faces.

If you happen to binge the new season too fast – hey, we all do it – we here at Metro UK have singled out 10 more Netflix shows that should be right up your street if you enjoyed The Umbrella Academy – you can thank us later.

Altered Carbon

This dark, dystopian series is perfect for anyone who counts Blade Runner and The Matrix as being among their favourite films.

Set well over 300 years in the future, Altered Carbon depicts an eerie world where death can be avoided by downloading your consciousness onto a ‘stack’ that can then be conveniently inserted into a ‘sleeve’ (AKA a human body).

Creepy stuff indeed – and, if that sounds like your kind of thing, then you’ll be happy to hear that a second season is already in the works.

Metro.co.uk says: ‘Altered Carbon is an exquisitely entertaining and intelligent sci-fi blockbuster series, albeit one just getting comfortable in its own sleeve.’

Misfits

Another series of Robert Sheehan’s, Misfits sees a group of teens doing community service gain superpowers after being struck by lightning.

However, they’re not the only ones, as they quickly discover these amazing powers bring new foes in the form of a murderous probation officer, exes from the past, and a dangerous cult to name a few.

You can watch all five series on Netflix now – get ready for a lot of action and some of the most colourful insults you’ve ever heard.

The Order

The Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose is arguably an even better name for a group than The Umbrella Academy, and the secret society at the heart of The Order is something that you’ll want to get the full low-down on as you traverse through this magic-and-dark-arts themed series.

Oh, and there are plenty of werewolves involved, too. Who doesn’t love a show with werewolves?

Maniac

This big-budget series promised much when the first trailer was released, particular as Oscar-winner Emma Stone and actor/director/all-around-good-dude Jonah Hill were cast as the leads.

The two stars, who last starred opposite each other in Superbad, play Annie Landsberg and Owen Milgrim, a pair of jaded individuals who undergo a strange and thoroughly experimental trial.

‘Things do not go as planned,’ the synopsis teases. Time to find out why, then!

The OA

Another show that finished after only a few series, The OA was packed full of secrets, mysteries, and questionable research methods.

The two seasons centre on Brit Marling’s character Prairie (just one of her many identities) as she grapples with the new-found abilities and responsibilities she seems to have developed since returning home after she went missing for seven whole years.

Metro.co.uk says: ‘Even when the weaknesses show, it’s hard not to admire The OA for everything it’s stirring into the pot. The attempts to explore new territory might leave you wishing for a stronger human connection, but there’s a fearless, captivating thrust pushing this series into a realm of its own.’

Stranger Things

We reckon you might have heard of this one.

Prepare yourself appropriately for the hotly-anticipated second volume of season four by delving (or diving back) into the Duffer Brothers’ smash hit show, which deals with a healthy supply of monsters, alternate dimensions and the compelling development of a not-so-ordinary bunch of teens.

Metro.co.uk says: ‘Stranger Things became a word-of-mouth smash impossible to sell without name-dropping its influences. The Goonies, E.T. and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind were all easy gateway reference points for outsiders, leaving the spirit of John Carpenter and Stephen King fizzing underneath to be the surprising core which turned everyone Upside Down.’

Gotham

If you love your comic book shows dark and dangerous then Gotham is the show for you.

Ben McKenzie plays a younger version of grizzled Gotham cop James Gordon as he attempts to tackle crime and corruption in the titular city – and there are loads of origin stories and familiar characters from the Batman comics like The Penguin and The Riddler involved, too.

And there are five series for you to get through packed full of action and mystery. What’s not to love?

Lucifer

Based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg, Lucifer follows the original fallen angel as he becomes dissatisfied with life in hell.

He begins indulging in his favourite pleasures – namely women and wine – before a murder takes place outside of his upscale nightclub and he finds a new purpose in his (after)life.

And when he meets homicide detective Chloe Decker, things only become more intriguing – you can watch all five series on Netflix now to find out why.

Titans

Do you love both The Umbrella Academy and Gotham after following our recommendations? Then you’re going to love Titans.

The series follows Robin as he leads a new group of heroes in Gotham City – Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy.

The newly formed crew of young superheroes join forces to fight their inner demons and save the planet from evil – sounds interesting? All three series are on Netflix now with a fourth series in production

Diablero

Imagine a city inhabited by demons – yeah, not very pleasant, right?

In Diablero, that’s precisely what has happened to poor old Mexico City after all of the protective angels take their leave. Fortunately, though, a group of very capable individuals have taken it upon themselves to impose order and kick some demon butt – although it’s understandably a bit of a tricky ask.

This Spanish-language series is a thrilling, funny and captivating watch – The Umbrella who, now?
