Warning: spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 6.

It’s hard to believe that Obi-Wan Kenobi is actually over – but the fact that the six episodes have flown by so quickly is just a testament to how fantastic this series has been.

Almost two decades after Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen were last seen as Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, the episode 6 finale saw them face off once again… and their rematch was sensationally brutal, in both a physical and emotional sense.

As fans await any news (crossed fingers) of a possible season 2, they’ll be able to relish in the mastery of the final episode, which combined fan service with heartbreak, joy, loss and hope.

Basically, it blended everything that’s made Star Wars such a beloved franchise for 45 years, while also fuelling the feeling that there is so much more content that can be explored with these characters on screen in live-action.

Obi-Wan and Darth Vader’s rematch is a battle for the ages

We all knew it was coming… and finally, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader had their epic rematch, which saw Obi-Wan finally realise that his former Padawan Anakin is truly gone.

During their first meeting, 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan was nowhere near his full strength, feeling overwhelmed by the discovery that Anakin survived their previous duel and horrified by what he had become.

But now, he was able to muster all his might, using the Force to fire a cluster of rocks in Darth’s direction in a breathtaking move and using his lightsaber to break the Sith Lord’s helmet in half, revealing the remains of Anakin underneath.

The way Darth’s voice flitted from James Earl Jones to Hayden as his armour was broken apart was haunting to say the least, and his reunion with Obi-Wan was made even more heartbreaking following last week’s flashback scenes.

While Obi-Wan was devastated to witness what had become of his brother, their battle also appeared to give him closure, particularly when Darth said that he was the one who killed Anakin, not the Jedi Master.

Reva discovers Luke’s true identity on hunt for revenge

Reva has had a whirlwind journey in Obi-Wan Kenobi, beginning as an Inquisitor, also known as the Third Sister, before being left for dead by Darth Vader.

The flashback scene to Order 66 allowed some fans to connect the dots regarding Reva’s true identity, which was confirmed in episode five when Obi-Wan realised that she was a youngling who watched Obi-Wan massacre her friends.

While she appeared hellbent on revenge on Darth at any cost, going so far as to hunt down his son Luke (Grant Feely), in the end, she couldn’t go through with it.

The fact that she asked Obi-Wan if she had become like Darth Vader proved – to us at least – that there’s still hope for her yet to return fully to the light side, although she would have some serious repenting to do for the atrocities she has caused in the past.

Moses has delivered a powerhouse performance throughout the six episodes, cementing herself as a fearsome antagonist.

Amid the vile comments and racist abuse that have been targeted at her online from trolls, we hope to see much more of her in future.

Princess Leia arrives home safe and sound

Vivien has been an absolute revelation in Obi-Wan Kenobi, embodying the late Carrie Fisher’s spirit as the young Princess Leia from the get-go.

While the trailers for the show appeared to imply that the series would follow Obi-Wan on his mission to protect Luke, Leia’s involvement in the narrative came as a welcome surprise.

The princess has proven herself as an efficient leader, a fierce fighter and extremely wise beyond her 10 years, and the moment she shared with Obi-Wan at the end of episode six – when he told her the qualities she’d inherited from both of her parents – was one of the most emotional exchanges of the entire season.

We’re hoping – and expecting – that Vivien has a long future ahead of her in the Star Wars universe.

Qui-Gon cameo sparks speculation over possible season 2

From the very beginning of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it was heavily hinted that Qui-Gon might appear in the series as a Force Ghost, having made his debut in the first film of the prequel trilogy, The Phantom Menace.

Despite Liam claiming that he would only return to Star Wars if he could do so in a film, the final moments of the finale saw him reunite with his former Padawan, as Obi-Wan rode into the desert on his Eopie.

The cameo was not a surprise, as fans had been predicting it since the series launch.

Nonetheless, it was still incredibly heartwarming to see, blending the desire for fans to see their wishes fulfilled with a satisfying end to a brilliantly-told story.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is available to watch on Disney Plus.
