The creator of Derry Girls has been proposed for freedom of the city following the show’s massive success.
Lisa McGee wrote the hit comedy series which has put Londonderry on the map and established a fanbase in several countries around the world.
SDLP councillor Martin Reilly said he proposed Ms McGee for ‘bringing joy and civic pride to her home city.’
The honour is given by a local council, for example, to either a person (civilian) or military unit, in recognition of their exceptional service to the City.
Ms McGee would be the first woman to receive the honour if it is agreed by Derry City and Strabane Council.
The proposal is set to come before councillors at a meeting on Thursday, June 30.
