Bachelor Nation’s Cam Ayala has revealed that he’s had his right leg amputated as a result of his lymphedema diagnosis, with scores of people rushing to wish him well following the operation.

Two decades ago, Cam – who starred on The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise – was diagnosed with the condition, which causes swelling to occur in the body’s tissues, most commonly in the arms and legs.

Four years ago, the reality star explained on Instagram: ‘In 2002 I was officially diagnosed with #lymphedema a non-curable condition that is often misdiagnosed and completely understudied by medical professionals across the [world].’

In a new post, he shared a series of photos after his leg amputation procedure at Texas Medical Center, including one where he’s sitting on his bed, using his hands to gesture shaka signs at the camera.

Cam also uploaded a video of himself using a walking frame in the hospital, taking deep breaths while walking carefully down the corridor.

In his caption, the 32-year-old used the hashtags ‘#amputee’, ‘#CAMputee’ and #FAITHover FEAR,’ having regularly shared updates on his lymphedema journey with his 20,000 followers.

‘So so so proud of you! What a wild journey you have been on, but I am proud of you!’ one person commented on the post.

‘Praying for you to get better cam! You have shown so much perseverance in the last couple of years!’ someone else said.

Another individual commended Cam on his ‘perseverance and positive attitude in bringing awareness to lymphedema’, having ‘seen first hand what lymphedema can do to someone’s mental and physical health’ as a nurse.

‘Wow! So in awe of your strength and positive energy. Sending up prayers for a quick recovery!’ someone else commented.

Cam currently works as the Director of Development and Marketing at non-profit organisation LE&RN (Lymphatic Education & Research Network).

A few days ago, he shared a video of himself putting on his full leg compression garment for the last time, saying that it was ‘only the beginning’ for him as he embarked on a ‘new era’ and a ‘new life’.

‘I’ll get a new FIRST step… a new FIRST jog, run, and sprint. Another FIRST road trip driving with my left leg. And I can honestly say, a new FIRST love,’ he wrote.

He thanked everyone who has sent him ‘love, prayers and support’, promising to make his ‘future amputees proud’.
