The legends slot is one of the most prestigious sets an artist can secure at Glastonbury, with the 2022 festival boasting some massive names.

Glasto returned for the first time in two years this week, following cancellations due to the pandemic, and it’s already got off to a fantastic start with Billie Eilish headlining on Friday night.

Still to come on the Pyramid stage is Sir Paul McCartney as part of the 50th anniversary lineup, before Kendrick Lamar closes on Sunday evening.

It’ll come as no surprise that tickets are sold out – with an estimated two million festival goers registering at the time – but you can still enjoy the legends slot, and all other performances from the comfort of your sofa – no wellies or raincoat needed.

Who is playing the Glastonbury 2022 legends slot?

When Glastonbury says legends, they mean legends, and this year they’ve gone all out by offering the legends slot to Diana Ross.

The I’m Coming Out songstress returns to the UK for her highly-anticipated performance this weekend, ready to belt out her hits to adoring fans.

Following the announcement that she would be playing the legends slot, the pop icon said: ‘I’m so excited and grateful to finally know, that I’ll be seeing you at Glastonbury while on my UK Thank U Tour celebrating my new album of songs, Sunday, June 26, 2022.’

Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis added: ‘I’m thrilled to be able to let you know that the magnificent Diana Ross is coming to play at Glastonbury next summer.

‘We were so excited to book such a legend for Glastonbury 2020 and are so happy that she’s the first to re-confirm for next year.’

Diana Ross is highly regarded as one of the greats, with more than 50 number one hits around the globe and 100 million record sales under her belt.

What time is Diana Ross playing at Glastonbury?

Diana will take to the pyramid stage on Sunday at 6.45pm until around 8pm, with the performance available to watch on BBC One.

Her performance was due to be introduced by Lauren Laverne and Clara Amfo, however, Lauren has pulled out of Glastonbury coverage following the death of her mum, leaving the slot open for another presenter to introduce the Motown legend.

Who else has performed in the legends slot before?

The legends slot has seen some of the greats take to the stage over the years, from Kylie Minogue to Neil Diamond.

In 1998, Tony Bennett wowed Glastonbury with a selection of smooth classics in the legends slot, while Al Green ended the 90s on a high with his classy tunes the following year.

The year 2000 saw Willie Nelson grace the stage, while soul legend Isaac Heyes took over in 2002.

A couple of years later in 2004, we were blessed with the funk of James Brown, with the one and only Dame Shirley Bassey playing one of the wettest Glastos to date in 2007.

The following years saw Tom Jones, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton perform in the legends slot with sets we still love today.

In recent years we’ve had the likes of Lionel Richie and Barry Gibb, before Aussie pop queen Kylie became the most recent legend to perform in 2019.

Her set was certainly something special, since she was due to headline in 2005, but had to postpone after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

She came back stronger than ever, however, and even brought out special guests Chris Martin and Nick Cave to Pyramid Stage.
