Good undergarments

Marlena’s first tip is too invest in good quality underwear to make the most of your figure.

While Spanx , may work for most, Marlena said curvy girls may need a bit more control, she adds: “I actually use compression garments sometimes.”

These will help smooth everything out and and tighten your curves, said the fashion whizz, which will help when wearing formal fitting clothes.

Embrace your curves

The fashion expert adds that while people may try and tell you not to wear certain things because of your body type, that it just isn’t true.

“Don’t feel like you can’t wear certain things,” she said, instead pick your favourite curvy body part and accentuate that.

You can go for a deep v neckline on the top and a loose fit on the bottom to accentuate your chest – or vica versa.

Wear a wide belt

Another tip form Marlena is to wear a wide belt to make the most of your curves while cinching you in in all the right places.

“It doesn’t matter what body shape you are, hourglass or emerald.

“If you wear a dark thick belt in the centre, it cinches you in and gives the illusion of a really small waist.”

Get your clothes tailored

Tailoring can make all the difference to your clothes, they can go form looking cheap and ill fitting to being a staple in your wardrobe.

She said it’s especially worth it for jeans and trousers which often don’t fit her properly straight off the rack.

“It’s not that expensive at all and it’s a great investment,” she adds.

“It makes such a huge difference in how you feel in them because they’re more comfortable and fit you perfectly.”

Avoid thin materials

Marlena recommends to avoid wearing thin materials as it can highlight parts of your body you may not want to highlight.

Instead, she suggests opting for fabrics that are thicker and have more structure to them to create a seamless figure.

“Something a little bit stiff hangs off the skin a little bit better,” she adds.

Stick to one colour

One colour outfits are not just easy to throw together – but they can also help you look taller and slimmer.

Most people would opt for black but Marlena revealed it can be done with most colours – so long as they’re the same.

The fashion expert said regardless of what colour, if you wear monochromatic in the centre and add a pop of colour in the form of a jacket or cardigan then it will elongate your body.

Buy clothes with stretch

This may sound counterproductive to having stiff clothes, but the fashion whizz says you can still buy thick fabrics which have a lot of stretch.

“Materials with stretch conforms to your curves a little bit, and it’s just more comfortable,” said Marlena.

Clothes that will conform to your figure will help accentuate it in the best possible way says the expert.

Flaunt your assets

If you have curves then you may as well show them off, right?

Again, Marlena suggests picking your favourite body part – whether that’s your chest, legs, bum or back and showing it off.

she explained “It makes you feel sexy and confident because you know what your strong points are so rock it!”

Patterns are your friend

You may have heard that you should avoid patterns if you’re a curvy girl – but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Marlena explains: “I thought it would make me look bigger, but it actually does the opposite.

“It distracts the eye a little bit.”

To balance the pattern out, wear a block colour everywhere else she revealed.
