After nearly 10 years of development, Ubisoft’s pirate game Skull & Bones is said to be out this Christmas.

To call the development of Skull & Bones turbulent would be something of an understatement. While many games suffered setbacks thanks to the global pandemic, Ubisoft’s open world pirate game seemed to be in trouble even before then.

Ever since development began in 2013, it’s faced multiple delays and reboots, although there are signs that Ubisoft is finally ready to get it out the door.

Only a couple of months ago, an overview video for a private player test leaked online, giving us the first proper glimpse of gameplay in years, and it’s now been claimed that Ubisoft is releasing Skull & Bones this year

Specifically, it’s suggested it will launch on November 8. This does fit with Ubisoft’s aim to have it out before the end of this fiscal year, but is also a lot sooner than some may have expected.

Ubisoft is no doubt saving a formal announcement for one of its Ubisoft Forward showcases. While it does have one planned for later in the year, it hasn’t provided any sort of window for when it will take place.

The Skull & Bones release date comes from Microsoft Store dataminer Aggiornamenti Lumia on Twitter, who claims to have found it and additional information via an Xbox Store listing.

Namely, what sounds like pre-order bonuses such as extra missions, and a digital soundtrack and artbook.

Skull & Bones announcement is imminent. Xbox Store listings are ready, some examples:

1) SKULL AND BONES™ PRE-ORDER BONUS
2) Bloody Bones’ Legacy Mission
3) The Ashen Corsair Mission
4) Smuggler Pass Token
5) Digital Soundtrack and Artbook
6) Premium Bonus Pack

Insider Tom Henderson has corroborated the release date, replying to Aggiornamenti Lumia’s tweet with a check mark – implying that it’s correct.

Henderson is a considered reliable source of info, having accurately leaked things like Hideo Kojima’s horror game and Ubisoft’s battle arena game Project Q.

While we don’t know when Ubisoft will next be discussing Skull & Bones, the company will be sharing info on Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope later today, following its appearance at yesterday’s Nintendo Direct Mini.

Skull & Bones is currently in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
