In, erm, unrelated news, Bernard Cribbins was spotted in set photos.

The Tardis in Doctor Who has been home to (at least) 13 Doctors and their companions, and now it’s about to get a makeover, as it’s reportedly being made wheelchair accessible.

The series, which will see Ncuti Gatwa take over from Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, has given us a string of exciting announcements recently, including the return of 10th Doctor actor David Tennant and Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble.

Now the Tardis is getting a revamp and will reportedly feature a wheelchair ramp to accommodate several upcoming characters.

A source said: ‘These modifications aren’t just a sign of changing times, they’re also down to some of the characters who’ll feature on the show.’

They added to The Sun: ‘Returning to the cast for the specials – which are set to air next year with David Tennant alongside Catherine Tate – will be wheelchair user Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott.’

Bernard stars as Wilf, Donna’s grandfather, and was spotted filming in set photos. He’s thought to be returning alongside Jacqueline King, who plays Donna’s mother, Sylvia Noble.

Set photos have given us some clues about what to expect from Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary episode, which will air next year.

David, 51, was back in a trademark suit and, thankfully, donning his signature spiky hair, while Catherine, 52, doesn’t seem to have aged a day as she slipped back into her role as Donna, wearing jeans and a colourful jumper.

David was also pictured by the Tardis which, notably, appeared to be the same one Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor has been using, rather than the 10th Doctor’s version.

As for how David, who represents a past iteration of the Doctor, and Catherine, whose character had her memories of the Doctor wiped after her storyline, will return, remains to be seen.

One theory says that David won’t return as the 10th Doctor, but a version between Jodie and Ncuti’s iterations, when the Doctor’s regeneration goes a little wrong.

Alternatively, the pair could be adventuring in the past, or in a parallel universe.

We can’t wait to find out!

Reps for the BBC declined to comment when contacted by Metro.co.uk.
