A radio station in Canada has been playing Rage Against The Machine on repeat for almost a full day in an apparent protest over staff layoffs.
Vancouver’s Kiss Radio has been playing nothing but Killing In The Name since Wednesday morning, a move allegedly sparked after two popular DJs were laid off on Tuesday.
The station, which usually plays soft rock, has had the rebellion anthem on repeat for over 24 hours with no gaps between songs.
Killing In The Name was originally penned in 1992 as a protest song against police brutality, with singer Zach de la Rocha declaring: ‘F*** you I won’t do what you tell me.’
The station is airing a radio-friendly edit with the swear removed – Metro.co.uk tuned in on Thursday afternoon to find the song is still in full swing.
Listeners report that the resident DJ interrupts the song only briefly, to read out a song request and flat-out deny it before launching into Killing In The Name again.
Breakfast show DJs Sonia Sidhu and Kevin Lim, whose laying-off from the station seemingly sparked the protest, issued statements on Tuesday confirming they would not be returning to Kiss.
They wrote: ‘Kiss is changing and unfortunately we were informed that we won’t be part of this new chapter.
‘Although this comes with mixed emotions, we want to express one overwhelming feeling: gratitude.’
They thanked their ‘loyal listeners’ for being with them over the last five years on the show, as well as their management team and the rest of the staff at Kiss Radio.
‘While we aren’t sure what’s next for us, we are grateful for you all,’ they penned.
‘This isn’t waking up from a dream, it’s starting a new one. And this isn’t goodbye either… it’s see you later.’

Neither DJ have commented publicly on the apparent protest, although Kevin posted a cryptic tweet stating: ‘Been away from my phone for a bit. Did I miss anything?’
Killing In The Name has been used as a protest anthem for a vast array of subjects over the years.
Famously, in 2009 it clinched the Christmas number one in the UK as the public grew tired of the X Factor winner getting the top spot year after year.

The track beat out that year’s winner, Joe McElderry, by an estimated 50,000 download sales.
This week, the band pledged to donate $475,000 (£387,000) for charity Reproduction Rights after the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v Wade, leading to an abortion ban in multiple states.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Kiss Radio for comment.
