Cameron Diaz was ‘encouraged’ to return to acting by husband Benji Madden, it has been claimed.

The 49-year-old, who has starred in Charlie’s Angels, The Holiday, The Mask and There’s Something About Mary, took a back seat from the limelight over the recent years, and confirmed her retirement in 2018.

However, she threw us all for a loop when she announced her surprise return, revealing that she is ‘un-retiring’ thanks to a new Netflix comedy with Jamie Foxx – with production beginning later this year.

According to reports, her husband was spurring her on behind the scenes, and has been the biggest cheerleader behind her decision.

An insider revealed that the Good Charlotte rocker ‘is very excited for her’, and ‘encouraged her to un-retire’.

They added to People Magazine that Cameron’s upcoming venture is ‘the perfect movie project’ for her return, as she has ‘worked with Jamie in the past and had a blast’.

‘She feels a bit rusty and nervous about it, but mostly excited.

‘She is ready to tackle this movie project.’

The My Best Friend’s Wedding star turned her back on acting four years after her last project, the 2014 adaptation of Annie.

In that time, she went on to start a family with Benji, with the couple welcoming their daughter together in December, 2019.

They have largely kept their private life behind closed doors, and have yet to share a picture of the little one on social media.

During a chat with Kevin Hart, Cameron explained her decision to step out of the spotlight, and admitted that her stints on the big screen had prevented her from managing other parts of her life.

‘When you do something at a really high level for a long period of time, when you’re the person that is delivering one thing, you’re the person on the screen, all parts of you that isn’t that has to sort of be handed off to other people,’ she said on his Hart to Heart podcast.

‘For my personal, spiritual self, I was realizing that that one part of me that functioned at a high level wasn’t enough.

‘I just looked around and there were so many parts of my life that I wasn’t touching and that I wasn’t managing, and I couldn’t really manage, because everything was so massive.’

Cameron confirmed her return this week, with Jamie Foxx sharing audio from a phone conversation they had, in which she told him: ‘I feel excited but I don’t know how to do this, you know?’

‘I got somebody on the other line that can help you with this,’ he replied, before joining Tom Brady – who famously un-retired from his NFL career – to the call.
