Adele has opened up about her weight loss, saying some fans felt ‘very betrayed’ by her new look.

The singer lost around seven stone and has previously said she fell in love with fitness as it helps her mental health.

However, she admitted she was upset after hearing how some fans felt.

‘I understand why the press were fascinated by it…I didn’t share my journey like everyone else does,’ she said.

‘Most other people would have a DVD out by now or a video of how I did it. I did it on the quiet for myself.’

Appearing on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs on Sunday, she added: ‘But I felt terrible for some people that felt like other people’s comments meant they weren’t looking good or that they weren’t beautiful.’

Clarifying, host Lauren Laverne asked if she meant people congratulating the singer, adding: ‘You felt that would be interpreted negatively?’

‘For some people it was,’ Adele, 34, responded.

‘And I felt terrible and some of the ones I saw were young – they were like 15. And there were some other people who felt very betrayed by me, being like, “She’s giving into the pressure of it,” which didn’t really bother me because you ain’t holding my hand at night at 4am when I’m crying my heart out with anxiety and needing a distraction.’

The Easy On Me hitmaker, who gave two spectacular performances at London’s Hyde Park over the weekend, previously opened up about her weight loss.

She told Vogue: ‘It was because of my anxiety. Working out, I would just feel better.

‘It was never about losing weight, it was always about becoming strong and giving myself as much time every day without my phone.

‘I got quite addicted to it. I work out two or three times a day.’

Adele revealed that she lost the weight without going on a diet or fasting intermittently.

‘If anything I eat more than I used to because I work out so hard,’ she continued.

Adele lit up London’s Hyde Park on Friday and Saturday with her epic performances, which were her first headline gigs in the UK since 2017.

It was a glorious homecoming for the singer, who released her album 30 earlier this year.

Stars including Tom Cruise, Ant and Dec, and James Corden were out in force to support the star, but she likely only had eyes for one person in the crowd – her nine-year-old son Angelo, who was also there supporting her.

She was clearly thrilled to be back, bursting into tears as she took to the stage on Friday.
